Duchess of cambridge up the duff

Wealthy and privileged, yes but still servants who probably at times wish they were the masses and could try do what ever they wanted to do with their lives.

While I don't doubt that they might envy some of their social circle who are also rather wealthy but are not in the public eye nor have any expectations re: behaviour/having to attend certain events etc..

I doubt they envy the average working class person or some middle class office worker stuck in a 9-5 or basically anyone that isn't either well off & free or who is pursuing a career they originally intended to pursue - not just working to live.

[obligatory posting of topical joke]

Kate Middleton has said if she has a boy she will call him by the most popular British boy's name at the moment.

We look forward to the arrival of baby Mohammed.

It would not be so bad if everyone did not go in to hysteria about it. The royals are starting to annoy me just because the media and everyone is so over the top about it.

She got knocked up, big deal its his third child, I am surprised he is still got valid swimmers because of all the horse riding.

My facebook feed was full over people say stuff like "great another mouth for my taxes to feed".

Really quite annoying considering:
The Royal familly brings in more money than they spend (especially true with Duke and Duchess of Cambridge)
The said complainers barely pay any taxes themselves.

yup - while in some utopian society they wouldn't, in theory, be required I don't see any compelling reason to get rid of them - currently they're a revenue earner for the UK's tourism industry, a great diplomatic tool for the Foreign Office and for UK business interests and also, technically, our last resort against any future potential dictators. Turning the UK into a republic would be a negative move IMO.

Is there any evidence for that?

The Monarchy gets roughly £461 million and another £195 million for travel a year from the treasury.

However, they are valued at £44 billion, which is more than Tesco and M&S combined and bring in a great deal of money for the UK economy, so what is paid out by the Treasury and our taxes is more than recovered.

Plenty. Do some research.
Most of the research I've seen is utterly flawed, as it seems to think that the benefits would not still be had if it was put back into public ownership (when in reality most of them would remain).

Not that I think the economic argument is a particularly strong one anyway, it's about holding a belief is equality & meritocratic values.

But hey, if you wish to be a serf & rank yourself lower then feel free, but the funding should be optional (so those who find the entire concept insulting can opt out).

If she is as popular as the monarchists say, I'm sure all the loving nation will donate money to keep the institution going.

Neither the receptionist who put the call through nor the nurse treating the Duchess suspected anything was amiss, despite the distinctly amateur impersonations of the Queen and Prince's voices. One of the presenters even barked, pretending to be a corgi, while the "Queen" wrongly referred to the Duchess as "my granddaughter".

Lol

On a side note, please don’t tell me were going to be bombarded with these non stories for the next 9 months?

Couldn’t give a **** about any of them. If they were to fall of a cliff tomorrow, i wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

You know that's an absolutely flawed argument, they don't bring anything in, tourists will still come without the leeching royals
