Newcastle Upon Tyne - Might be moving

Just stay away from Sunderland and you'll be fine.

Coast is nice, metro is very handy for most places in and around Newcastle.

Around NE12 all i'd say is stay away from Shiremoor.

I lived in Newcastle for almost 4 years, they were some fantastic years. City is nice, has a lot to see and is close to some interesting places like Durham, Edinburgh etc, good night life, nice chicks etc. Fear the chavs though, they are nasty.

You wont be dissapointed

make sure you goto idols :P my stepson works there :D

I've been there a couple of times, the first time I got dragged in when I'd had a skinful and apart from the people in there we had a good laugh bouncing around to horrendous music. The second time I started off sober. My god.

Lived here all my life know everything about the city so with a bit more information like the guy's have asked for I'll be able to help you. I currently live near the coast NE29 but I'm moving NE1 city centre hopefully very soon.

NE12 isn't too far away from where I live, Cramlington.

Very nice town with decent shops and some very nice estates (£400k) and some not so nice estates (£council)

Longbenton has some very nice town houses which would seem ideal for renting, and there is also Gosforth but that can be £££££

Jesmond and Heaton is full of students, so if you are young then that could be your scene. The metro is really good for getting around, as you've got Four Lane Ends which is pretty central to the location you have given for your work...

I would suggest you start bouncing off ideas of where you are looking at, and we can advise if it's a no go.

Long story short, I may be moving from down south up to Newcastle Upon Tyne due to work. Now I know absolutely nobody who lives in this area and moving from to the other end of England is a bit daunting for me. Like all areas in the UK theres rough areas and half decent areas.

I'm currently looking at the cost of renting flats/apartment and was wondering whether there are any areas people would recommend avoiding?. Also any average area's people would recommend. I believe the business will be in the area of NE12.

where in the south are you moving from?

London?

Big decision OP
but no doubt it will be a cheaper lifestyle

I was up there last month just £1.80 to get the car washed
little things like that make the difference for me, but probably the torrid weather and coldness is enough to put me off.

I needed a taxi and the woman had a strong sandancer accent but was unable to understand MY LONDON accent lol how weird was that?

This thread is full of geordies, sandancers and mackems lol

How many of you have made the move up to the area before? any regrets?

I actually moved for a time down to Guildford, and although it was a nice place, job was OK, I really did miss the North East. Guildford was too far inland, it always felt stuffy and hemmed in. I found myself going to brighton a couple of times just for the beach (which is a terrible beach, cant even make a sandcastle :(). I moved back up here and have no wish to move out of the North East anymore. Its much easier up here, no pushy mentalists running for trains, (Up here, its mostly a case of oh, well, there goes the Metro, I will just get the next one) everything is far less rushed in general.

People recommending South Shields? What has the OP ever done to you?

Years ago when I lived there permanently I would have felt the same. But after living in Kent, Aylesbury, Wolverhampton and Scotland.. I can actually say I love south Shields.

I take friends up for weekends out on the town and they all really like it too. Good links to places. Nice beach and parks. It's got crap areas and maybe I have rose tintedglasses of my home town but it's really quite a good place :-)

yer I noticed that
much less people

for instance was at millenium bridge once during the day and there was like 4 tourists taking pictures
in london you would probably see 40 tourists for those 4
