Is it worth the extra for the Nexus 7 over the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7"??

I'm looking at getting a tablet for my dad for Christmas and am considering the 32GB Nexus 7 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" but am not sure if the Nexus is worth the extra cash!

He will be mostly using it for e-mails, browsing etc - definitely no gaming etc!

So I guess I'm wondering if it is worth the extra £60-£80 for the Nexus (after the Samsung cashback)??

I've got the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and find it perfectly good for what I need it for so I'm thinking the Nexus might be overkill!

Are there any other factors I should be considering here??

I've got the 8gb N7 and it's sound, I love it and hardly use my Note to browse now, my lads have SGS7.7's and they're great tabs if price wasn't a factor I would struggle to decide which was best RW, don't have any experience with the SGT 7 2 though I'm sure it's ace.

IIwy I'd probably get my dad the N7 for the buttery smoothness and stock updates though does he need 32gb.

Unfortunately yes - for no other reason than the N7 doesn't have a micro-sd card slot for expansion! (although I doubt he'll ever get close to filling 16GB, let alone 32GB!)

As a mobile browsing tool the 8gb does me, 5.92gb total space 5.2gb available at the mo because my Note carries all my music and obviously I don't take photo's or vids on the N7, if space became an issue I'd just go usb otg.

It does have a front camera. Why would you want to take pictures with your tablet anyway.

I find I do use mine for the odd snap or video of my son charging about and I'd guess my dad would want to do the same! (of his grandson, not me! :p)

Just take your phone out of your pocket to take the pictures?

I'm rather glad I didn't have to pay extra for a camera i wouldn't use on my n7.

That's the thing though, it's not paying extra - the Galaxy Tab 2 (that has a camera and a micro sd card expansion slot) works out at roughly £60 less (after the Samsung cashback) than the 32GB N7!?!?!

LOL, Imagine the world if you could still amaze and instill feelings of love in your dad just by running around the room and jumping over your action man:D

Oh and I agree with you for an adults dad the tab 2 will prob be the better option if only because it will be adequate for the purpose and cheaper coupled with the data flexibility of the sd slot.

Thats a very good point I'm not going to try to counter, but you know what I mean ;) [They were much more expensive when I bought my n7]

Instead let me remind you how much of a dork people look like when they take pictures with tablets. I'd use the phone anyway even if the n7 did have a camera :p

Me & the gf are trying to decide the same thing, and think we're gonna go with the Tab 2. Like you say with camera, micro sd and cashback its seem like a very good package. That and the gf prefers the white tab to the N7 lol, hopefully the JB update won't be too long.

The JB update is available in some places. You can install he French region JB ROM, which supports UK English.

JB is officially available in the UK for the GT2 now, although I had to use Odin to get it installed on mine. Kies can **** off, waste of space that it is.

Did this thread ever come to a conclusion? As i am currently pondering over the same question gt2 or n7.

Now that you can get the gt2 for £142 it makes the choice a little harder.

As this is a tablet that i am looking to replace a broken laptop with purely just for web surfing, videos and ebay viewing and placing items. Thus i am slightly leaning towards the gt2 due to the sd card slot and the camera which i could use to photo items with.

The only thing i am a little worried with it the processor as it is only a 1ghz dual core compaired to the n7 1.2 ghz quad core.

Does anyone have any direct experience with the gt2 and how it performs?
