7970 or 680

You can keep the same RAM, here's what I'd buy for 450 ;

GPU ; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-305-SP
CPU ; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-418-IN
Board ; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-252-GI
Cooler ; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-098-TR

Overclocking is very easy, people will take you through it.

Sell the FX8120 and current board, get yourself a nice IPS screen at 1920x1080.

Pricing on Haswell stuff is unknown, but the first parts to launch will be the mainstream, I'd hope they would mirror SB/IB launch prices, which would mean you could probably get away with 300-350 for a board and CPU.

ok thats some food for thought:confused:

You're not going to be hitting 5GHZ stable on an 8120 :p

idd seems i am not - think a 4-4.3Ghz from what little have read so far - what gets me the most is the default settings have the core boost thing on and in cpuz when the boost is active to push it to 4.1 the temps rocketed so turned that off - just going to use it to expreiment and get used to OC while got this mobo an chip so when comes to the new intel range i have an idea of whats going on - i also think my ram maybe a little poo as timings are 11/11/11/24or27 but aint a clue on what numbers go where (will read more yet and learn quickly i hope an ask in a relevent thread if still little )

all in all your advice has been taken on board but just cant justify to myself to get a new mobo chip combo after this mobo only being a month or so old and to have to go through another full install so soon will make me cry (granted might get away with updating the registry for the games to work but thats changed since i last just clicked the config.reg file back in 98/xp)

Just wish your shop wasnt so far away so I could myther till ya gave me a job (cleaning or answering phones as 15 yrs ago was a tad idiot like an didnt bother with school - lots and lots of call centre xp says how my grades are) in exchange for knowledge and training - am a practical learner ie learn from doing more than reading

but anyway seem to be going off topic alittle there
so in nutshell am going to go with the 7970 which was advised further up and play the waiting game for the mobo an chip upgrade so now its just a question of which 7970 will still be about in 6 months when i get the 2nd card new mobo an chip and 3 screens

again thank you for time an effort

no no - i bought the 8120 back in feb/march or when ever it was released an flashed a giga 870 board to fit it and it did ok till hit the amd overdrive button and it asked for a reboot which i agreed to then 2 hrs later (curiosity killed the cat for sure) it never turned back on (think the 2 little bios chips broke an just need new ones soilding on from what have read an spoken to ppl about) I am not rich man so i upgrade parts slowly but surely but had to get a board that would take the chip without a flash needed as sold my duel core hense the asus 990fx which then my power pack 530w bequiet was getting alittle stressed with that card mobo combo so an emergancy purchase of the HX750 was bought a week later as one to last a long while - so sealed my fate long time before the mobo was bought

this card trying to get to 690 spec or the 690 just way to good for anything to even come close - not buying a 690 as not that rich for sure

but think am defo going to get this tho now - its the pretty lights that go with my fans lights that make the win for me

unless a really compeling argument can be made and my RMA hasnt been sorted by time the argument has been considered

Can't help you with the RMA, I don't work at OCUK :p
Well, it's really upto you, but I can't help but think you'd be throwing money away to put 400 quid into a GPU, especially given if you put the 450 into CPU/GPU/MOBO/COOLER and overclocked you'd end up with a better gaming experience than you would FX8150 and 7970 (That is with the i5 3570k and 7950 Overclocked)

That VapourX 7970 is horrifically priced for what it is.

tbh with chip/mobo combo you showed the B grade thing put me off in an instant as call me weirdo but i like things to brand spankers as love the shinny stuff an feeling like am 10 again opening the wrapper lol

well it has got me considering just to sell my current mobo an chip so can add it to the budget if someone will purchase (all sensible offers considered but aint a clue what would be a fair price) and I will suffer some more with just ps3 gaming for time being and see what can get in the jan sales with added xmas cash too prolly pushing the budget upto about 650 at a guess

damn now am even more confused

i want a working comp and looking like the more i think the more confussing it gets lol

think will get the lightening - wait till xmas cash arrives an up the chip as seems the most simple way and then save the pennies and spend silly amounts on the next gen chip/mobo an then double up the card - and while waiting for the next gen will aquire me some decent screens to get me a FOV 180 when on possibly bf4 by then (belive it at beta stage now)

that seem a goodish plan?
or me still looking like this little guy

ok i have gone to bottleneck the lightning card till get the new chip again thanks for the advice and sorry if seems have just ignored it but was the 1st thing advised to get a single 7970 - a competitor has already got 7990 on its books but tad pricey (thats rich from someone who has just spent 150 on some blue lights lol)
