I loved the 5 Live hour-long show on him a year or more back (possibly around his 80th birthday), but I'm one of seemingly a minority that hates his football reports. He turns it from a report into a bloody opera. While that's great from an entertainment point of view, he doesn't do a great job in portraying what's happened in a game.
Don't get me wrong, I love passionate and historical sports commentators and reporters, and I know he's 82, but to me he just comes across as a blithering idiot now.
That said, I do admire his desire to simply wanting to go to a football match and talk about it, no matter who it is. He often covers what are expected to be the dregs of the Premier League fixture list, so credit to him for still having the lust for the game as much as he does.
