Crossfire or SLI?

I had very few problems with GTX 470 SLi in Win7.

Can't speak for the lastest cards though.

Edit: No problems - apart from when it didn't work! :D

i.e. poor or no SLi profile for the game.

GTX470 SLI pretty much flawless for me to.

Multi GPU is generally more prone to problems than a single GPU but mostly just works these days.

Personally I consider SLI slightly better supported of the 2.

What Rroff said :)
I had xfire 6950s then went sli 680. No major problems so far with either.

I do much much prefer nvidia control center over Catalyst CC tho.

SLI marginally more robust than CF having used both recently but still more than fit for purpose. Although have you have to factor in the nVidia cards costing more at the mo as well.

CF seems to scale better than SLI these days, and I've never had a problem with it except with a few older games that don't support it (and dont need it - running at maximum with just one card).

If you're using a single monitor, I second the advice of those saying just get the best single card you can afford. If you're running triple monitors, a dual card solution is strongly recommended. The nvidia option has a couple of features that I wish AMD had (bezel peek, mainly), but AMD gives more raw power at those higher resolutions.

Using HD 7970 Crossfire in my main rig, awesome performance no problems. Had GTX 480 SLI before that, that was awesome aswell..

The only thing with Crossfire / SLI is that sometimes you have to wait a lil while for drivers to catch up with latest game releases to get best / optimal performance from Crossfire / SLI. Not a problem for most people.

Crossfire scales better than SLI on the current cards, might be worth considering, especially with AMD's lower price / better performance price points aswell. HD 7950 crossfire is pretty much best bang for buck right now..

Single GPU is best option, until you riun into a scenario where no single GPU is good enough (triple screen + the most demanding games at high settings).

^^ Problem is if no single GPU is good enough to get bare minimum playable framerates then with multi GPU you have a far higher chance of running into significant microstutter and related issues.

Multi GPU works best if one card is getting 40-50+fps and you want to hold as much as possible a constant 60fps (or 60+fps depending if you use vsync or not) or get as near as 120fps as you can.

Microstutter is such a variable thing - many people dont experience it (or don't notice it - and if it's not noticed, it's not a factor), and there are ways to minimise it for those who do suffer it. For instance, AMD users can use the latest radeonpro, which mostly eliminates it.
