gigabyte 7950 or his ice q 7950?

really as title thinking of getting a 7950 (upgrade from 6850 as from what i have read doesnt seem like prices will be dropping anytime soon if at all am i wrong? should i wait?) and these two have caught my eye and from people talking on here seem to be the two best.

are these both not voltage locked?
my worry is also the size of the cards i have a bit fenix shinobi case and i know that the msi 7950 fitted with room to spare.

found the specs:

gigabyte: H= 42.5mm, L=280 mm, W=134 mm (11.023 inches)
ice q boost: 15.5 x 5.8 x 29.5 cm (11.614 inches)
msi: 261 x 111 x 38mm (10.27 inches)

i think the gigabyte will fit but the ice Q could be a real tight fit!
anyone have the specs of the shinobi case regarding graphic card lengths?

i found with the msi the vram got very hot which caused it to fail (along with the issues currently surrounding it!) and the gigabyte looks like it has good cooling on the vrams whats the ice Q like vs the gigabyte?

which is better the iceQ or the gigabyte?
thanks for any help

Used the 7970 WF and a IceQ 7950, the WF is quieter@idle but the IceQ is cooler and quieter under load with the added bonus of venting the waste heat out the case, the IceQ also has by far a superior vram/vrm cooling plate to boot.

The IceQ would get my vote hands down as it's core/memory can be overvolted in the his-turbo as well.
:)

I got the IceQ 7950 in my Shinobi fits without a problem the voltage on mine is unlocked, and it overclocks really well.

Not sure about this statement tommybhoy, 'but the IceQ is cooler and quieter under load ' given this statement, 'and coming from an 800 MHz reference clock, 1125 surely is great. Temps under load stabilized at roughly 75 Degrees C.' which comes from this review. I know for a fact my Gigabyte WF3 7950 overclocks to 1250 core and temp maxxed at 64c. What vrm temps does the IceQ get on a max OC, I'd like to know this as one or two peeps have suggested the Gigabyte has 'inferior' vrm cooling but until I see some vrm temps for the IceQ then I cant compare. Also noted in the IceQ review, at max OC, the fan was at 100% and was very noisy. My GBWF3 7950 only reached 49% fan and was hardly noticible noise wise. No doubt the IceQ is a very good card, if a little ugly, but I would recommend the Gigabyte WF3 7950 from my experience.:)

I would be intrested in this too,if people with the his ice q could put up there vrm temps and core temps and the fan speeds and people with the windforce 3 also that would be awesome and very interesting. what temps do you get on your vrm's rolypolyman?

I have tested both of them in my main rig roly, just giving my honest opinion on my experience using both of them-I'm not providing a bias view, as I don't currently use any, just giving my tuppence on two good 79's.:)

The WF developed a fault after 5 days or so, but I put it through it's paces the same as the IceQ that I pushed as well.

Two totally different coolers I may add(pretty obvious really) but as I stated the IceQ would have been the better gpu for my needs and I wouldn't have sent it back if it didn't have an ever so slight 'grating' noise@idle(which was also picked up on a review so it's probably a characteristic of the cooler).

I'm anal about noise and if I can hear a gpu fan over my almost silent case, then It's not for me, whereas the WF was inaudible in my rig@idle and if it never broke I would have probably kept it too, but it does get very noisy as soon as temps hit 60c where as the IceQ has a less intrusive noise under load while dumping ~90% of it's waste air outside your rig.

Hey Chris, vrms when on max Oc @1250 core were 73\74c. Here is info I posted on another thread with my card at stock(on left) and max OC.

'At stock (900\1250) 0.967v 35%fan, max temp 51c, vrms 55\56c
OC (1250\1250) 1.25vAB,1.219vGpu-z, 49%fan, max temp 64c, vrms 73\74c

Heaven Score : FPS= 63.4/80.7 OC
Scores= 1596/2034 OC
Min FPS=40.5/47.9 OC
Max FPS=137.6/171.2 OC @ 1920X1080 4XAA 8XAnistropy Normal Tesselation.'

Fantastic oc on the core roly, does your vram not clock well, or did you just not bother?

Higher vram clocks can push out great performance with AA/MSAA in titles like BF3/SD/FC3, but, don't go overboard on it as it's usually the first to go **** up on a card.

:)

Never doubted you tommybhoy its good to share our findings as this helps others come to a conclusion about what card to buy. Its always a bit of a gamble anyway as there is always the chance of a duffer. I usually go with Msi and would probably have bought the TFIII 7950 but for the faulty batch Ocuk got from them. Not quite sure how they passed quality control to be honest and has put me off Msi for now. The IceQ and the Gigabyte WF3 7950's seem to be the ones to go for just now.:)

I haven't checked my AB config recently so it might just be missing the 'I confirm that MSI cannot offer support' etc and Unoffical overclock 1 but my AB has a limit of 1200 for the core.

How do you get it higher than that? Iirc HIS I-Turbo could go higher but I had issues fixing a constant voltage with that (if someone knows how to sort that, it would be good also!).

I have a feeling I've got a good chip and want to see if I can go to 1250 on the core.....although I doubt it makes much difference from 1200.....

Cheers

Hey WU, using AB 2.2.0 and this voltage unlocker. Will let you go as high as you like, I think.

MSI Afterburner Max Voltage Unlocker v1.01
by AgentGOD.

Google as is will take you to it.:)

Sorry I didn't mean the voltage, I meant the clock speed. The highest the core will go in AB is 1200Mhz and I want to try 1250 or more !! Is it just my config (like I said I haven't double checked but I haven't changed it recently)

Also, if anyone knows how to force constant voltage on HIs Iturbo that would be great!

Thanks roly
