What I don't get it they can tell from their records what shop told the ticket and at what time so can't they get the CCTV and see who it was?

They are not allowed to do that, you can only view cctv if there was a criminal investigation, but you would have thought this would have be waved for the type of money we are talking here

Not exactly the same scenario. In the casino you havn't actually won anything yet. Thats like picking one set of lottery numbers and then killing youself when they dont get picked.

However in this case the person DID win and never claimed their winnings. To then discover they could have had all that money, but basically threw away the opportunity to claim it, would be devestating.

You could sell it on ebay as the "Ticket that once was" or something, people pay crazy money for rare items.

It may turn out to be a good thing, obviously not £64million good but...

A better analogy would be that you had a incredible winning streak in the casino but in all the excitement you got drunk, forgot to cash in your chips and managed to lose them all.
