I'm in the process of buying my old man a Blackberry Curve for Christmas. At the minute he's on a £10 a month rolling PAYG type contract with Vodafone and has a some antique Nokia with a mono screen!!

I'm not 100% up on Blackberry's but from what I've been reading it seems you need some kind of bolt on package with most carriers to be able to use the email function. Is this true?

He doesn't have a computer at home and in an effort to get him on to the web and involved in email and facebook so he can catch up with friends, family etc I thought a Blackberry might do a trick. He is nigh on useless with touch screen stuff hence why I've been looking at the QWERTY boards on the Blackberry's, setting him up with a web-based email (Gmail or similar).

Given all the above would the Curve do the trick with his current SIM or would I be better getting a new £10 p/m SIM from GiffGaff.

QWERTY really is a must but if anyone has other suggestions I'm listening....

Cheers

Guess how many of those you can buy in the UK...

None:p

Yep with BB you need a blackberry data plan but now most networks just bundle it as internet ie my 12mth rolling sim plan with tmobile has internet and when asked the guy said to me that my BB will still work on it...which it did. What i mean is that i wasnt put on a specific BB data plan when before i was on a BB specific data plan. With my sim i can use my BB or any other phone that can use the internet. Paying £21 a mth with unlimited calls/texts and internet over 12 mths.

Just make sure that the current sim he has can be used with BB's, just give them a call and im sure someone there will be able to help you.

Op,

Are you or your dad on Virgin Media?

Just put the wife's blackberry on a £12 p/m sim only, 30 day rolling, for 1200 mins, unlimited texts, 1gb data, blackberry services/email and free calls and texts to other Virgin mobiles :)
