Orange Broadband (not fibre)- any good?

I am fed up with my Sky Broadband and am close to the end of the contract. Orange have made me a good offer but i don't much want to find they are like Sky with slow speeds and frequent breaks in the connection.

Anyone care to comment on them? I know a lot of this will be dependent on where people live but any comment would be helpful.

We have used O2 and found that was a very good provider and we got good speeds and reliable connections. We only moved because the price went up and Sky were very pushy and we believed them about speed etc. we don't want to get caught again!

Was it Sky Connect? The BT Wholesale over subscribed version they offer folk who are on exchanges who have no LLU equipment at the exchange.

Never had any issue with Sky Unlimited and get the max my line provides, most of the time.

So Sky have LLU presence.

What's the problem with Sky then? Long line? Disconnections? Latency?

most of that. I have to have a 'gamer' profile to get even reasonable pings which means getting only half the usual upload speed. Even then pings are quite high - average maybe 75ms. Speed doesn't even make 8 Mbps. We were getting more like 12Mbps with O2 before we moved to Sky.

Go with BE if you can, avoid Orange with all costs, constant disconnections, low SNR which is awful, very bad customer service!

My friend and father has orange and both have problems with the routers and drop outs. AVOID!

Well I wondered if there were problems with the offer I got. Anyone got anything good to say about Orange broadband?

Where I am there's no sign of FTTC in the pipeline up to 2014 - I gather the problems are with our historic town and the preservation society so I just need to best LLU while BT sorts things out.

Next best LLU is going to be Be*.

Experience might not be any better if you have a line fault/poor internal wiring.

BE* best BB we've used here in Southampton, Orange were awful, avoid!

Bad reading for me, just dumped VM and joined Sky Unlimited tonight :eek:

@ Tealc, was your line speed estimate accurate? Mines saying 9.6 - 16.4Mbps?
