Holocaust ash art

Is it all right that I don't actually care?

Perhaps if the guy dug up some dead carcases, burned people alive or something, it might actually be news worthy.

All this describes is some dust on the ground that could have theoretically come from just about anything...

I also agree with the statement that turning the camps into attractions, is perhaps just as bad.

I think I agree.

Using the ashes of one person, or several known people, would be unacceptable to me. Instead, I think these ashes represent a phenomenon, an atrocity, something unthinkable, harrowing and impossible.

If only he had gotten some kind of permission or blessing from a holocaust survivors group and the Museum perhaps, instead of stealing them and possibly desecrating the remains.....?

I can see the validity of your position, but not in the context of what this chap has claimed he has done.

I know what you mean. He did technically steal them, but from another perspective I don't see why there is any sort of ownership of them anyway. We can all relate to the horror of the holocaust even thought we might live far away and might not have had it in our lifetimes. It's a piece of worldwide history that transcends time.

In that regard I think the remnants of it belong to none of us and all of us.

Indeed, but it still doesn't sit right with me. I think these things need to be done with some kind of collective consent and with a large degree of shared compassion and I also think that sometimes, and this is one of them, remains should be left where they lie and that should be the testament to them.

I feel that the painting is somehow macabre and not really appropriate.

This, with some sort of permission fine, without said permission then its basically grave robbery. I think in all liekly noodles, they would agree to ashes being. Used in a memorial way.
