Hey, Any of you who oredered from Clove got a e-mail confirmation that it is shipping today? I have nt received any mail. Just Curious if I missed out on anything.

I've always preached having a phone and a tablet with different OS, I find it a much better choice than having two phones or two very similar devices (iPhone+iPad or Nexus 4+Nexus 7 seem very silly to me). That being said, people work for their money so they can do whatever they want with it :)

well said, it helps prevent you from getting bored of one os. windows for phone, android for tablet, and apple for laptop ;)

i received my shipping confirmation from clove just now. saying uk special delivery (next working day) - but they said to me yesterday that it will be guarenteed for saturday by 1pm?!

Dropbox is on the way....

Dropbox has announced at LeWeb 2012 in Paris that the company has released a Modern UI Dropbox app for certification in the Windows 8 Store.

The app will become available as soon as it passes certification, and will support access to files, photos and media files stored in the cloud from the desktop but also on Windows RT devices like the Surface.

At the event, Aditya Agarwal, Vice President of Engineering at Dropbox, reconfirmed the company’s desire to develop apps for the major desktop and mobile operating systems and allow users to store and access their files from most modern devices.

Dropbox has more than 100 million registered users, making it one of the major services to adopt the new OS environment.

I think an app launcher style OS is fine for the tablet. IMHO the iPad has the best apps too. Stuff like NanoStudio, Garageband etc.

But when it comes to a phone I don't really want to be launching and switching between apps all the time. The phone's interface should do all of the common tasks seamlessly without needing to launch an app (which may have a totally different user interface).

I just received confirmation from Clove with order tracking detail that it is being shipped by Royal Mail Special Delivery (Next day). Royal mail has no info at the moment though and after checking their website, Royal mail says that IT DOES Deliver on Saturday before 1 pm provided the shipper pays a special surcharge.

Have asked Clove if they have specified this or not.

*Fingers crossed*

I got the same email...will wait and see when the tracking kicks in...hoping that its tomorrow!

Even if they haven't paid for Saturday then if they sent it Friday with next day delivery it nearly always arrives on the Saturday anyway.

Reply back from Clove:
Thank you for the email,

The Nokia Lumia 920 is being dispatched today by Royal Mail Special Delivery. It is possible that the parcel will be delivered tomorrow as we often find that Royal Mail deliver these type of parcels to residential address on Saturdays.

I'm getting up early and staying in all morning to receive this...bye bye Saturday morning sleep in and going out plans...

Which validates my point that some people just have phones to play with and not use. More than one phone? do you not have better things to spend money on, I have a mortgage and home improvements to fund for instance.

WTF??

Seriously, stop preaching and being so pompous.

I have my personal phone which is my 920 on vodafone and I have to carry a work phone as Im on call a lot which is on orange. My work phone is a **** 1st gen atrix, which is long overdue a replacement. Id love to combine the 2 in a dual SIM phone, but have yet to see one I like. I also get a really poor orange signal where I live, so am not willing to combine the 2 numbers onto one SIM.
Can't see for the life of me why anyone should have to justify a 2nd phone to you, everyone is different and has a different situation, do you moan at people who have a laptop and a tablet..

Jeez

Maybe you should mind your own business? People can spend their disposable income in which ever way they want, whether it's a hobby, presents for yourself, housework or whatever. And for all you know he can pay for all of those without sacrificing anything.

I just think it is rather pointless owning more than one smartphone. You buy a phone, use it then replace it with another one once it has reached the end of its useful life.

Why have three phones? people ridicule Stephen Fry for being an Apple fanboy yet he has a smartphone for each platform (WP, Android, iOS).. I just find it really sad myself. I would much sooner be out mountain biking, socialising, not sat indoors pratting about with phones or computers (I've done that for too long already in the past).

Some of us have to own two smartphones due to work commitments/contracts
You are completely missing the point, but I really can't be bothered.

For those that are interested, Expansys are sending out mails advertising that they have limited stock of the 920

i agree with the above comment,

but its true that many people have 2 or more phones these days for different purposes, weather it be business, pleasure or as a backup.

it probably is a bit of a waste of money buying a second top of the range phone in mine or your eyes, but if it makes him happy n he has the money to spend, its not upto us to ridicule. im sure everybody in this forum has at some point bought something they dont need but they want it bad. most people on this forum love phones, tech and gadgets, so if someone says they want two phones on different a different os, it shouldn't really come as much of a shock.

Speaking of owning two phones, Three is offering the HTC 8S for £180 on PAYG. That could make a great Xmas gift or a good spare for developers.

Has anybody else had a small problem with their nokia 920, in that it keep disconnecting from wifi when i lock it and am not using it for a minute or less?

ive tried rebooting and battery saver is not on.

its strange because yesterday its was staying connected perfectly.

any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about it being simply on the lock screen? or when the phone goes to idle? (i.e screen turned off)

If idle then...

It's a Windows Phone thing not a a problem...

There is an update next year which will add the option allow Wifi to remain active when the phone is in idle.

This option is actually available on the HTC 8S only at present.
