Why are Irish Terrorists called Dissidents ?

Read the reports, most are reported as Dissident TERRORIST groups. Its not just one or the other lol, the terms can go hand in hand a lot of the time.

I got mt google-fu on and searched for "dissident republican terrorist" and loads of articles turn up but guess what the term is not used in the reports. However what you will notice is the culprits are being with charged terrorism offences.

What you will find is the police calling these people for what they are terrorists however the journalists / reporting outlets in their headlines call them dissidents. Like I said in my opening post seems to me we are being manipulated.

Basically the dissident ones have splintered away from the mainstream terrorists because they can't agree whether Gerry Adams real voice is better than his 1980's one.

^^ :D that always makes me laugh.

Also the story of one of my older sisters friends from uni who thought Sinn Fein was the person doing the voice over and always wondered my he was portrayed as different people on tv.

Think of it in terms of "South Park" logic. It's much like "Good AIDS" and "Bad Aids". The old terrorists are now our fiends, they're all fluffy cuddly and nice, lets call them the "Good Terrorists". While the new terrorists are bad and evil (Booooo). We don't want to call them terrorist incase people get them confused with the "Good Terrorists", so we invent a new name, dissidents. Works well as long as you forget that they're all scum (by all I mean both sides).

My thoughts exactly, we have been conditioned since 2001 that all terrorists are not good for society and we have given up various freedoms so our governments can control us further.

Dissidents is hardly a new name, I heard the word used a hell of a lot when I was learning about the end of the Soviet Union. Its not trying to candy over the fact that there are Irish Terrorists.

am I right in thinking that they lost lots of support/funding from America after 9/11?

as it finally reminded new yorkers what terrorism actually was?

I thought it was quite a bit before, 98 peace process (and 94 ceasefires) were the stop helping them you fools moments.

Most inappropriate joke in the thread: most of the ira aren't even irish... (time to hide)
