Duchess of Cambridge's nurse has reportedly been found dead

Not sure you can lay they blame with the DJs though.
.

The thought of this happening literally never even crossed their minds.

Whilst suicide probably wasn't on at the forefront of their minds the very best that could have happened is that they would get people fired.

They must have known that if their prank was to work they were almost certainly going to destroy the career of the person who put them through. It’s not a huge leap from there to think that partly destroying someone’s life may result in them killing themselves or falling into some kind of depression.

Did the pranksters seriously think they could do this prank without risking anyone’s job (and therefore life)? If so they were idiots.

If I rang you today and told you to drink some acid, and you did, would you hold me responsible?

That comparison would only work if they'd phoned up and told her to commit suicide.

People need to realise that their actions might seem funny to them but it can have a serious impact on other people.

The hospital itself had said they would be taking disciplinary action so it's quite possible that the nurse in question could have been facing suspension, or even more serious action given the hospital, and patient, in question. Potential loss of livelihood and reputation has pushed many other people over the edge in the past, so it's not that shocking that something that started out as a joke to some people could have caused this.

This tbh.

Only an idiot would think it would end well (obviously not many would think death, but somebody losing a job over it would be bad enough in this climate).

I kinda agree, it is very sad but all they did was phone up and make a joke phonecall, it's not really fair to blame them entirely for a death.

Kind of is. If they didnt do said 'prank' she wouldnt have this intense pressure from the media to lead to this.

I wouldn't be surprised if she lost her job over this.

Lose job right before Christmas, pretty hefty black mark on your CV, lack of jobs anyway......

As soon as I heard the call I was worried about the consequences for those who had taken the call. I didn't think it would be this bad though.

And yes, the presenters should have taken that into consideration - if you start messing with someone's job/livelihood and they take their own life then you played a massive part in their death.

It all snowballed from a prank call, but to blame the prankers for the death is truly ridiculous. It's an awful situation, but it'd be wrong for the presenters to be blamed for the death.

There was abstract causation, rather than direct causation. The death was remote from the absolute cause.

I'd place more blame with the managers, and so forth, if they didn't offer the correct support.

Without the prank there would not have been the intense media pressure which followed and so on.

According to the BBC it was the woman who put the call through that has commited sucide, the police aren't treating it as suspicious.

I think the minium they could do for her was offer support, I have no idea what support they offered but I feel it wrong to blame the managers for not offering the correct support, had the initial phone prank not happened, the media attention would not have followed and the support not needed.

They made a prank call. It was funny.

She handled it badly.

I agree, it's not their fault she committed suicide but I feel for both sides though as well.

Pranks like this are done all over the World, many far far far more disturbing (youtube them). It just so happens that the DJs picked the wrong person to prank :(

Yes but equally if the support was better, she wouldn't have felt the need to take her own life.

I agree the prank was a bit of a silly idea, but they're not the only one's to blame.

She's not the only one to ever come under intense media pressure, the difference is she couldn't handle it, either because of her existing mental state or lack of proper support.

'cause pranks like this and worse are done all over the world this somehow makes this ok? Can't agree with that. It's not an excuse that others do this or others do it worse.

It was a bad prank to play, without any consideration for the result of their actions.

It's tragic. Anybody taking their own life is tragic.

I don't understand why she would have done so after something so trivial as that though. :( It's only a prank call - it's not exactly something that she would have been blamed for (or at least shouldn't have been blamed for), for connecting her call.

Eitherway, she obviously felt dreadfully guilty, and must have had some underlying issues to want to take her own life - I doubt it's directly related to the call.

Though prank calls are so 20 years ago... it is really a rather pathetic way of doing comedy IMO.
