Driving test tomorrow - advice?

Ok, sit in your car and look at the mirrors without moving your head, it's second nature to move your head. Why make his job harder when you can make it obvious that you are checking your mirrors, it's not a distraction to move your head, if you feel it is then you shouldn't be driving.

He is there to assess you, I just feel there no need to hide your actions.

I agree, if your are going to slam your breaks on make sure you check your rear view (if you have one) first! (or at least mimic the head movement lol)

If its natural then there's no point putting the conscious thought in his head of "must make a point of moving my head". You're not hiding anything, you're just acting like you normally would! If you move your head then fine, if not then that's fine too.

I check my mirrors as regularly as I should, I don't consciously move my head to look at the rear view mirror. Yes, I should be driving.

OP - check your mirrors like you normally would. Don't think the instructor won't notice if you don't move your head

Your not quite understanding or your be purposely dense, we're basically arguing the same point. Make sure the tester can see your checking your mirrors, this is most obvious when your head looks in the direction of the mirrors no? There's no need to be coy.

Anyways, OP, has hopefully passed.

No, we're not. What was being advocated is that you should go out your way to make a point of making motions which might not be natural.

My point was that if you're doing it properly, regardless of movement, the examiner will see it so it's not worth having it play in your mind.

Nope, this is incorrect. I got a minor for not checking mirrors at a speed change, even though I did, so the tester obviously didn't see me doing it with just my eyes.

They are not watching you all the time, they're also watching the road.

60 hours plus two this morning? Isn't that like 2-3x the average? But woah u can't fail with that much practice.

No it's not. The DSA recommend 60 hours these days and anything between 40-60 is the average today. I'm friends with a driving instructor.

Stop giving the lad a hard time about having 60 lessons. It's not a lot these days and while it may seem a lot, who cares. He's going for a test and doesn't need people shooting him down in flames and making him feel stupid right before a test.

I hope you pass OP and if you haven't, then who cares! I presume your not in a great rush to drive for any important reason. Get it rebooked for 10 days time and have another go.

Havent forgot! just got in! at work tonight so cant drive much today, PASSED! 3 MINORS!!! 1 for late indication, 1 for slight hesitation (stayed at a roundabout a bit too long) and the other was for fudging up a reverse left (my worst mannouver) so i stopped, retook it, blazed it.
Rest was generally good, never went over the speed limit, not a single gear fault.
Booking pass plus now! I get it for £60 with a local government scheme, so worth doing. I only have to do the motorway drive. done everything else with my instructor.
So chuffed!
thanks for the advice. So happy!

PS I bought my car ages ago, 54 plate ford fiesta 1.25 finesse in electric blue. Decent pull away but a slug in top speed! takes forever to hit 70 on dual carriageway, still itll do til im expereinced and the insurance is good enough to get a audi a3 2.0 tdi :D:D

Best of all too, my OCUK order arrived!!!

If you've covered it all anyway except motorway driving, why the hell are you giving your milking instructor another £60 for a run up the motorway!? For a piece of paper that is worthless... That's right, it doesn't reduce your premiums or at least not with the many insurance companies I tried it out with, made zero difference to premiums.

Wait a few weeks and then head onto the motorway yourself in quiet non peak times, stick to the left lane and keep a steady speed. EASY!

PayPal gift me £30 for this advice and saving you £60. 50% fee isn't that bad :p
