I was thinking of edifier rt 1900 or edifier prisma, at the moment I have a small hifi which takes up a lot of space on my desk so looking for speakers only for pc.
My sound card: Asus D1

Budget 60-70 pounds

Prima's will almost certainly offer more bass, due to the subwoofer. They won't sound as good though. One reason is the Prisma's are cheaper. There are more materials and components involved. That means the more components there are, the more the budget is stretched between them. Also larger woofers produce a better more balanced sound quality, when compared to 2.1 speaker with two smallish satellites and a subwoofer.

It depends I suppose what you are going to use them for, primarily. If you are after plenty of bass for gaming, maybe the Prisma's or other 2.1 speakers will be a good choice. If you are after overall sound quality for music, then no doubt the 1900's are the better choice.

2.1 will give more bass than 2.0, but edifier seem to be an good option as well.

I've been using the Edifier R1600Ts for awhile and really like them and the 1900s supposedly improve on the bass over these as well. Tho they won't deliver the bass a system with a sub would they do give great overall sound quality.

Currently have sony mhc-ec79i which takes up a lot of space on my desk.

Have a LOOK

Does the bass go low and you can hear it?
That's why I was thinking of 2.1 as a better option for better bass detail

The bass starts to roll off at around 80hz but it can still be heard down to about 60hz-ish. The Hi-fi setup you currently have will most likely have more bass so if you want more then its probably a better idea to go 2.1. Quality is definitely going to suffer, though.

But the sound quality on the sony hifi is terriable...

I did think about these and these

Why not try a set of active monitor speakers.I've got a set of behringer ms20 and they are awsome, fully adjustable bass trebble, even a phono out for a headset. They have basically got a t-amp for each speaker,so when using a headset they will be amplified.
