Newcastle Upon Tyne - Might be moving

I lived in Newcastle for 3 years. It is by far my favourite city in the UK.

Yes - you can go to your local on a Friday night :) lots of pubs around.

Went to one pub with a group of friends and there wasn't enough space for us all on a table. A couple of groups of people shuffled up so we could all fit in :)

Lovely place!

Oh man, I just want to go up there now for a week or so and get the feel of it!:(

Right I'm going down the local for a couple. When I'm back I'll have a look on a couple of sites for accomodation.

If online, would some of you be kind enough to give your opinions on a couple of places which I look the look of?

Geordie shore :(

The muppets off that should be hung fr the Tyne bridge by the ankles and used as human piñata, fugly scummers! :p

I have considered carrying out some sort of car bomb attack on the Geordie shore house. If I got caught, my entire defence at trial would be to show the court a single episode of that dross. I'm sure a jury of my peers would let me walk after seeing that. Perhaps I'd even get some sort of medal...

Ive spent many a good night in the Monkey Arms before I married my Geordie lass and then after when we would travel up to see her family.

It's my local. :)

Was there last night and I'm paying for it now! Lovely pub, great atmosphere as everyone is so friendly. :)

A lot of the cast of Geordie Shore are actually from the land of smog apparently, Hear bad things about the show.

We had a runner from the show trying to recruit extras at work the other week (I work at Northumbria Uni). Some of the numpties were proud they were going to be on the show! :o

I'm in agreement with most people in this thread that Newcastle is a great city. It's big enough to have everything you want, but small enough not to be annoying. Some good places to live around here, but also a few estates that you probably want to avoid (Cruddas Park, Byker, Walker, Elswick). Having said that, even some of those areas have nice bits. I used to live just at the end of the Quayside, right near Byker and it was great. I now live on the wrong side of the river on Gateshead river side which is really nice and I can still walk to work in 40mins.

From your age/what you have said, I think Gosforth/Jesmond/Heaton are probably the best places to look for you. They all have a big student population together with a good nightlife etc.

As for the nightlife, it is legendary. Personally it isn't my scene at all and the Newcastle you see during the day becomes completely different on the night. But if you aren't into getting paralytic down the Bigg Market then there are plenty of other options such as the Pubs down in Ouseburn (Good real ale pubs).

:)

Agreed, especially about Ouseburn, the Tyne Bar and the Free Trade Inn being my favourites down there. The view from the Free Trade Inn down the Tyne is spectacular, while the Tyne Bar has a really good atmosphere (there's usually a band or some sort of event on) and the beer is top notch. Well worth the 20 minute walk from Central Station.

If anyone is still actually in and live up North/North East what do you do on a Friday?

I'm off to a local in a minute and then usually would go to town on Saturday. Guessing its the same?

I tend to go rock climbing on a Friday for a few hours after work. Saturday is normally downhill mountain biking. Sunday is a walk in the hills.

Or yeah...you could sit in a pub, there are many!

Yeah, thought I'd grow up and try to get a career! Studying medicine now.

It's cold up north. What was that white stuff coming out of the sky earlier?
Ohhh, bit of a delay in responding, I know :D
I believe you still owe me a pint for some energy advice I gave you once.....like five years ago!

Should pop out for a mini meet. It's a while since I had a drink in the town.
I'd be up for a few beers one night to meet fellow forumites.

i live in forest hall, really really quiet, seriously recommend
