So, if money wasn't an object and overclocking was planned, which is the better of the 2 cpu's? both 3.4Ghz 1155's.

I know that normally "the more expensive" the better, but I've known cheaper chips overclock better.

google only seems to be showing the i7 being better for 3d work etc but can't find actual comparisons.

depends what you use your pc for,for any multithreaded game/program the 3770k will be quicker, otherwise they will be the same speed

Depends on usage tbh. The 3770k features hyperthreading, this is beneficial in applications that will utilise the extra cpu threads. Video editing/encoding being good examples. If the system is primarily for games, the non hyper threaded 3570k will be fine.

Nice website, thanks for the link. Looks like the i7 is a little better overall.

Main uses are going to be gaming, photoshop, creating slideshows, hopefully video and starting to learn 3d art to incorporate into the photography.

If that's the case, I would go for the i7, you'll benefit from the extra threads with the 3D work + video editing.

cool, going to do some reasearch in to overclocking it now, it'll be my first one.

Raise the multiplier. Stress test and monitor temps. If temps are good, keep raising till it starts to crash. Then start increasing voltage until it gets too hot/crashes. Lower multiplier/voltage slightly and voila.

A 'stable' (Stable being used lightly here as its often argued what stable is) clock.

yeah, that's what I had planned but he H60 i purchased doesn't seem to have any way to connect it to the mobo/cpu. no screws, nothing.

Trying to find out if that's right or if there's a problem.

Don't fancy overclocking on the standard hear sink :(
