Hey guys,

Anyone know any good websites for all Macbook parts please? for non ripoff prices if possible :p

I've decided to try and repair my MacBook as I cannot justify buying a new one and I've fixed thousands of laptops over the years so why not this one!

Any help appreciated...pretty sure it's not against the rules.

Cheers,
Jake

I don't know exactly until I dismantle it really.

As far as I know it's all ok...just most of the keyboard is Knackered!

Get the right part number off iFixit and then order it from the cheapest place you can find?

Personally, having looked at the prices of parts, it was only abit more to give it to Apple and let them do it.

Got a whole new top cover for free for my 2007 MacBook Pro when the new keyboard they fitted for £60 didn't let the backlight work!!

Ebay, I got a nearly new keyboard and trackpad combo for my macbook for around £30.

Try searching for the model number eg a1181

Ah cool thanks :)

Is that the 2008 Ali Macbook model number?

I've thought that before... Ribbon cables are no friend of yours! (not sure if the MBP have many ribbon cables but they've caused problems for me in the past!)

I've dismantled and repaired thousands of laptops...just need to be patient.

Forgot I had £25 in my paypal account so I just found a replacement UK keyboard for my MacBook and ordered one, it's coming from ShenZhen - £18 it cost me, free delivery.

It probably won't be here until the new year but hey...I'm not fussed! :)

So I'll replace that then see what else is broken.

A1181 is for the older plastic macbooks.

I imagine a 2008 model will be a higher number, maybe A12xx?

Ifixit is a godsend when taking apart macbooks, as they often use the same diameter bolts, but different lengths, so the photos are ideal if you forget which bolt goes where.

EDIT: I see you've ordered, good luck, keyboard swap shouldn't be too difficult, just be careful with the ribbon cables and you should be ok. :)

Update!

Ordered a keyboard from China on Dec 9th and it turned up on Thursday last week.

Dismantled the laptop and I can see why they charge so much! The keyboard alone is held in by about 25 TINY screws  and to get to it you have to remove pretty much every single component from the laptop.

However, being patient, I did it slowly but surely...and now...IT LIVES :D

moo har har! So chuffed its unreal! Got my MacBook back! *hugs*
