Loyalty

Loyalty, trust, reliability and respect are all essential traits for me. I am not religious but I do take that "treat others as you would like them to treat you" seriously when interacting with people face to face. Wish I could adopt this approach more on the internet but it's too hard to.

I never quite got why I would ever mention those during an interview as they are common basic skills, but over the past few years I have realised they're skills a shocking about of people lack. A lot of people put more effort into "pretending" to have said traits and manipulation when at the end of the day, it takes a lot less effort to just be plain nice and truthful if you mean it or not bother if you don't.

I am not going to pretend the sun shines out of my arse as mistakes do happen, but I usually apologise quite promptly when I feel I have let someone down as I feel like I've let myself down in the process.

People without those four key skills don't respect themselves as well as others IMO.

I feel pretty much the same.

I would say I'm pretty loyal and I expect the same.

I was so loyal 2 years back that a guy at my work was going to leave and not tell anyone and take 70% of the contracts with him which would have affect my job and I would have probably got made let go. My boss was so good to him and this guy was the only one paid commission on bookings (average of 2 grand a month). So anyway, I had a quiet word with my boss and my boss let the guy go after 4 weeks (notice period) and the guy only managed to take 1 contract with him as my then boss had secured the rest. It was my bosses fault for not having anything in his contract but it could have been worse.

Anyway, fast forward 2 years and I practically beg for my job back after leaving due to no workload and my boss doesn't take me back and decides to take someone else back who left after I did. WTF! I was burnt so badly then and I've learned so many lessons so I suppose it's good in the end.

It's a good feeling now as they're doing nowhere near as much business now compared to a year or so back.

The guy who left ended up dying 6 months later, karma? You decide.

Just glad not to be in the same situation as you describe above.
I can't be bothered to read it all. Not worth reading.

While loyalty & "goodness" are not mutually exclusive, give me 10 good men over 10 loyal men anyday.

How loyal are you and how much does it mean to you that other people show loyalty? I would regard myself as an innately loyal person, it needs to be earned but once it's there it's difficult to budge.

However, I'm realising that more often than not, this loyalty is not rewarded, indeed it can be to my detriment. That said, I don't think I can change that part of my personality and sometimes, people do show that loyalty means something.

So, what does loyalty mean to you?

Loyalty to me means to be feared and respected. You give people just enough so that they remain loyal, if you give them too much then they don't need you.

lol tank is a great big softy :D

Still great poster though and imagine would be great to know in real life :)

has given me some good advice over the years :)

I'm loyal but honest with people. This means I will stand by friends and colleagues when I can, but will not blindly follow if I believe them to be wrong, but I will tell them the truth and not demonstrate false loyalty and will be supportive where I can. I will not tell people one thing and then do another, something that has sadly hurt a few times in business dealings when working with people who are perhaps less principled.

There is nothing worse than a smiling two faced 'friend' who wants to 'do the best for you', people like that lose my respect and I have no concerns walking all over them as they reap what they sow. Business is a minefield and I'm yet to be convinced you can have friends in business, though once you are not associated with them in business this can change. Loyalty only really works when it's reciprocated and sadly it often isn't and worse, is implied it is when it isn't.
