Ultimately, there was none of this public outcry against the DJs about the prank call UNTIL something bad actually happened. Says it all really.
2) I could have an argument with someone at work which might lead to them going home and killing themselves. It doesn't mean I was wrong to do what I did.
Their actions contributed to someone killing themselves. How someone else in that situation would react is irrelevant. The punishment should be on par with people in cases where they harass or bully someone who then takes their own life.
Does any fault lay with the hospital for not giving the nurse enough support after their security procedures failed?
Seems a pretty dumb prank all round though, even without the tragic suicide. Pranking a pregnant lady that has past 12 weeks in this way can lead to all sorts of stress and complications...
If the hospital had checks in place to stop this happening and made sure their staff followed these procedures then she'd still be alive. The hospital is far from an innocent party in all of this in my opinion.
Someone is depressed for years, struggling with life, considering suicide... its not an extra phone call/situation that pushes someone over the edge, its the rest of her life not changing for the better, because it was her existing life that was almost certainly making her unhappy enough to commit suicide.
Think of it like this, you hate for instance, your family, your husband, you know your husband is cheating, your job sucks, your parents abused you, you're deeply unhappy and considering suicide... do you finally do it... because of a phone call, or because your husband is still cheating on you, your job didn't change overnight, your parents still abused you, and you're still deeply unhappy.
Pranks on mates is one thing, pranks on strangers is another. Contrary to what television may tell you, pranking is for douche bags. You are not a douche bag, are you?
-Nobody but the Nurse is responsible for her actions.
-You can't go through life worrying if your actions might lead to someone killing themselves.
Am I reading that right...you think she commited suicide coincidentally at the same time of this incident of which you feel has nothing to do with it? I must be reading that wrong.
Cant agree with you there, pranks on medical staff are an absolute no no, just let them do their job. It's stressful enough.
if i prank my local hospital now regarding information they would:
A) Hang up and not top themself
B) Report me to the police and not top themself
That's utter tosh, the Australian media watch dog was inundated with complaints prior to her suicide but many more after. Please get your facts straight.

Oh for the love of... honestly you people are hilarious. Debating over the semantics of this is laughable. A pair of DJs made, what was to all expectations, a harmless prank call. A nutjob topped herself (tragic but a stupid overreaction that left two kids without a mother and a husband without a wife). A nurse divulged private information to someone that they thought was the queen. There isn't anything else to discuss. It's just a sad unraveling of unforeseeable outcomes to a tasteless joke.
Everyone will have forgotten about this in 2-3 days except for the family that has been left without their mother/wife because of some idiotic honor belief? All this posturing and public outrage is just garbage bred out of people with too much time on their hands and not enough intelligence to contextualize the information.
agreed, but harsh to call her a nutjob.
Everyone needs to get out of the royals ass.

I can't think of any other way of describing someone that feels that taking their own life because they passed a phone call through and is so selfish that they can't consider the well being of their family above themselves.
