Google Play Store Now Requires Google+ To Review An App

Forcing some facebork/twitter clone down our throats? Sorry but GTFO.

This, not a bad idea. But locking down is never good. At least allow Facebook and other services.
I hate all this locking down to a single provider in this new digital age. Be it this, to drm on film purchases.

My main gripe is, I get hassled on YouTube about merging my existing account with my G+ profile. I click no, and it repeatedly persists. I do have a G+ profile btw, but I just don't use it nor do I want my friends being spammed by my 'reviews' etc on their timelines.

Granted I haven't read how this system will work yet but I can pretty much assume thats what will happen if I review stuff a lot.

Talk about flogging a dead horse. How long before Google get the message that hardly anybody wants to use their damn social network? Since getting an Android handset, I feel like I've had Google+ crammed down my throat :(

No one's forcing anyone to do anything, for several reasons:

  1. You don't have to review applications
  2. To use the pay store, you need a Google account and Google+ is an integrated service that just needs activating

Care to actually share your thoughts on why this is a bad move? I assume that's what you think based on the use of the roll eyes emote.

Indeed. It's bad because I'm having to sign up for a social network that I (nor anyone I know) uses, that I do not want (I have Facebook & Twitter) and which is horrendously platform-biased. Just to say "Yay or Nay" to an app.

Plus no-matter the PR they spin on this, the simple motivation for it (and everything Google do) is to increase advertising revenue.

Average Joe now needs this Google+ thingy to review an app. + means a better Google right? Sign me up!! Which means they create a Google+ profile, Google gets to learn even more about you and so sell you for more. Simple.

If you are on ICS or above you can disable Google+ thankfully. Go to Manage Apps > Google+ > (uninstall any updates) > Disable.

Ah yes, good points. I think the fact that people can't leave annoymous reviews is a good thing, but forcing people to sign up to Google+ to post them is annoying.

You spend a few seconds signing up to Google+, one time, and then you leave reviews exactly as before. Improves the quality of reviews with minimal impact. If you don't like it, don't leave reviews!

I'm dead set against social networking, yet I like being able to leave genuine reviews to help others make educated decisions about their purchases. Now I have to choose between the two.
No more reviews then.
I noticed it this morning when I went to review play music, I thought it relevant to let people know it used 300mb this weekend, even though I didn't even load it up. I guess people will just have to experience that annoyance for themselves now.

I prefer Google+ to Facebook..I find Facebook Intrusive more than anything. Will never have Facebook on any of my PCs or Tab. YUK!

I'm sure you're not the only one to have noticed that, and you make it sound like every Play Music user would read your review. Thanks to the bad quality of Play reviews I never read them, this move might improve it.
