I have a 15" Retina MacBook Pro due soon (hopefully tomorrow!) and because I'm not a millionaire I have not got the big SSD in there. So just 256GB. I've also gone PC free recently so, along with my iMac this will be my main machine.

I'm going to whack Wondows 7 on there via Bootcamp. However my Steam game library will have to live on an external disk. Is USB3 adequate or is it better to stump up significantly more cash for a Thunderbolt drive? Personally I think USB3 will be fine...

I'll be doing some video editing but have a 2TB NAS for storing those files once editing and will be working with them on the SSD.

Part of me wants a Thunderbolt drive but the cost is putting me off.

USB3 is more than adequate. I have a USB3 with SSD for my steam library, works perfectly. I have contemplated getting a thunderbolt enclosure purely to free up a usb port, not because of the speed.

One final thing, make sure once you have created a bootcamp install and installed the bootcamp drivers, go to intels site and download the latest USB3 drivers, the default bootcamp drivers are USB2 speeds
