So I have my MOT booked in for tomorrow and having carried out the 20p test, I can safely predict that I need 3 new tyres. (we'll call it 4 in that case) I, however, am completely clueless about tyres.

Can you tell me which tyre I should choose from the following, my requirements are budget value for money tyres for a Citroen C2... so nothing special. The longer they last the better.

Choices are:

Avon 1756514 82T ZV5 Fully fitted Total: £55.02

Avon 1756514 86T ZV5 XL Fully fitted Total: £60.89

Bridgestone 17565R14 82T A001 Fully fitted Total: £60.37

Bridgestone 17565R14 82T EP150 ECO Fully fitted Total: £59.39

Continental 17565R14 82T ECO CONT 3 Fully fitted Total: £61.14

Dunlop 17565R14 82T SP STREETRES Fully fitted Total: £58.10

Evergreen 17565R14 86T EH22 XL Fully fitted Total: £52.26

Evergreen 17565R14 82T EH23 Fully fitted Total: £55.45

Evergreen 17565R14 82T EH22 Fully fitted Total: £49.94

Evergreen 17565R14 86T EH23 XL Fully fitted Total: £57.94

Federal 17565R14 82T SS-657 Fully fitted Total: £53.98

Firestone 17565R14 82T M/HAWK Fully fitted Total: £54.54

Goodyear 17565R14 82T DURAGR Fully fitted Total: £57.19

Hero 17565R14 86T ATLAN AR01 XL Fully fitted Total: £60.95

Pirelli 17565R14 82T CINTURATO P4 Fully fitted Total: £59.53

Uniroyal 17565R14 82T RAINEXPERT Fully fitted Total: £55.08

Thanks in advance

The Rain Experts or the Contis would be my choice, based on the fact they both have a reputation for being reasonable tyres.

Evergreen/Hero - never heard of, wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

Buy Continental Premium Contact 5. They're around 37 quid in that size. (plus fitting)

Fitted them to our Yaris. Great tyre

People on briskoda seem to love those rain expert tyres, but if as someone has said above that premium contact 5's, a current generation higher quality tyre is available, that sounds like a no brainer to me ?

WTF are Hero?

Sounds more like a marvel comic character than a tyre.

Tyre shopper has Bridgestones on offer in that size for £49.55 a corner all in. You can get them fitted at your local National tyres for free.

pfft find a new tyre supplier, I see none of the top brands there. you want a quality tyre such as those from Wanli or Roadchamps or the mighty champiros if you can find a set.

or if your really lucky maybe you can find a set of woosung Darkhorses.

ps. go for the contis and only buy any of the above if you wish to die

Bizarrely the EcoContact3 is marketed as a fuel saving tyre, yet has a very poor efficiency rating on the EU label (class F) compared to the much better PC5 (Class C).

I have Heros on my mx5. I haven't crashed yet ergo they must be as good as the top brands.

Honest :D

PC2 are good for fuel consumption. Since changing from AD08s to PC2 I've gained 3mpg. I would have thought the 60 profile and biblical sidewall deformation (made from jelly?) would increase rolling resistance but apparently not. I suppose it could also be from going 225/245 to 205 all round.
Anyway, the consumption is less than before, and you can actually feel a tangible difference when driving at 70-80, it needs less throttle and you just feel less resistance. I'm waiting for the 'cool story bro' et all, but I just didn't expect this difference.

I've noticed the same on my focus going from some worn Avons to PC5s. Increased mpg and it feels so much smoother at every speed but especially on the motorway.
