That time of Year: Xmas bonus and pay rises.

No doubt this will turn into a bragging match but whatever.


Just had my annual review, was very positive with my performance but the companies finances are not doing too well since our 2 main project that had hoped to see significant investment had delays.

Pay rise of about 2.2%, bonus of 6.4%, a few thousand share options that I have no idea of the value.

Pay rise is as expected, inflation more or less and I have not had a role change. Bonus is a little less than I was hoping for and it is unlucky that the 2 project deadlines slipped. Still, I am very glad I did get a bonus as I know a lot of people working don't get a bonus in their field.

I tried to make a push to a more management position, although since the team is so small this is not a clear role.



I hope you guys got a nice bonus in time for Christmas. :)
 
Nothing for me :( but will get a pay rise in April!

Can't really complaint. Other people from my generation are either un-employed or make minimum wage.
 
Bonus? Isn't that ... nah. Can't be. I work in the private sector

I am getting small 3% rise now and then a proper review mid year on the anniversary of me joining the company.

Actually what really made me happy was giving one of my team a 24% pay rise.
 
Our company have trebled turnover in four years but we don't receive bonuses. :(

Well, if you don't count £10k holidays. :)

And we don't have annual pay rises :(

They're monthly :)

Of course tax takes a large chunk of the bonus since you get taxed that at the top tax rate, with my salary I just clip into a higher band (in the US there are lots of bands).
Interestingly my pension was deducted but the company matched so my gross bonus is higher but my net quite a bit lower.


Also i just found out yesterday that my rent is increasing next year so my pay rise will be more than neglected by increased rent.
 
Paycut next April, significant once again, likely in the region of 10%.
No bonus at any stage, coupled with loss of some incentives due to length of service etc.

If I was given a pay cut I would get out of the company ASAP. No business should do that to their employees.
But I expect they want a large attrition rate, if a chunk of their work force voluntarily quits then they save a wad of cash
 
Yup, with the first post.

No absolute numbers were mentioned to limit any bragging. And it is not like my numbers are astronomical, probably bang on average for my industry.
So I have nothing to brag about, just happy for what i received.

Had neither for over 2 years!

Though got 15% bonus 3 years ago which was welcomed. However not had a payrise in 3 years, and actually took a 3.5k pay cut.

Certain NHS sectors in Northern Ireland, there is simply nothing we can do.
Will try to up private work, but as no one has any money at the moment, there is a limit to what can be achieved by doing that.
 
My review was done in October and I got an 11.11% pay rise.

No bonus except a weekend trip to Disneyland Paris next Year for the whole company.
 
What about for people whose annual review isn't at Christmas? At my firm (public sector), it's whenever you got recruited, so in my case it is in May. So if we're talking May 2012, yes, I did get a 2.5% raise. Christmas bonuses aren't handed out to staff.

At my old firm (private sector), everyone at Christmas had a £50 bonus. The way it worked is that you'd receive a higher amount than £50, so that it appears on your payslip as exactly £50 once income tax is taken off. For me, it was something like £71 un-taxed for it to become £50 tangible money.

Whilst I would do the same it depends very much on the industry and how your skillset transfers elsewhere at the moment unfortunately - some people don't really have the choice (and some are just not motivated enough to do anything about it)

No christmas bonus for me as ours is mid year, time to negotiate (or fail to) payrise is after christmas

Not everybody has that option, and employers aren't freely employing as they used to - it's hard to find a new job at the moment.
