Gay Marriage to be Illegal in the Church of England

Yes, however under the proposals they would not be able to change that position without a change in the law. Unlike other religious institutions who would be able to choose on a case by case basis if they so wanted. It is effectively discriminating against the CofE ironically.

Are the CofE likely to change their position anytime soon, if not whats the big deal.

The Church of England is committed to the traditional understanding of the institution of marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Doesn't really leave any room for interpretation to make case by case decisions, since its pretty much black and white.

If gay people are so persecuted by religions, I have no idea why they'd want to be "married" in a "church" anyway.

The Abrahamic religions don't believe in gay relationships, so it's always confused me as to why people want to be involved with them but also be gay.

It might seem like an oversimplification, but to me it's like non-white people wanting to be members of the BNP.

Because it would be funny?
If i was still with my boyfriend, and we decided we would get married (i'm totally against marriage in general btw) i would want to get married in a church for the giggles.

Likewise, if i was part of a minority group i would apply for the BNP (just because it would be funny)

Jesus never married and spent most of his life surrounded by 12 men one of whom is names as the one jesus loved.

The scripture that says being gay is sinful is the same scripture that says shelfish is just as bad. Essentially it was just a way of outlawing things that were likely to get you sick, not so relevant any more.

Bro's before ho's, Jesus knew this.

How mature, to **** on some elses beliefs just for the "giggles". It's gays like you who give gays in general a bad name.

Because they are a member of that religion? Christians that follow the teachings of Jesus and not the opinions of the churches leaders.

Yet want to get married in a church that persecutes them for their chosen lifestyle?

You can be a "christian" without having any involvement with any churches at all, that was my point.

Well regardless, there is a significant lobby within the CofE that support Gay Marriage.

surely most homosexual people are not religious in the slightest as all abrahamic religions do not agree with homosexuality ... to me its more about equality ....

A sense of fairness , nothing to do with religion .. more like a church is a institution where people get married ...so why shall they be left out ?

Equality goes both ways though.

You'd be the only one laughing really, I can't see it being anything other than a waste of your own time.

It'd make more sense to let them have their churches and laugh at them for being so bigoted and closed minded.

With their current doctrine, its black and white though. When and if they change that doctrine is another matter.

And when or if they change that doctrine, they would need a change of law. Which no other religion needs. That's the whole point, you've seemed to of totally missed.

The bible doesn't exactly promote homosexuality, personally I think a being a gay christian is a bit of an oxymoron.

There are many places to get married that have nothing to do with a church.

Personally, I don't think anyone should get married in a church unless they regularly go to church because otherwise it's just meaningless.
