Census 2011: fewer than half of people living in London are white

Why does it matter? The Muslim population would have to expand at a ridiculous rate to exceed that of "white" people, by which I'm sure you mean white people who happen to be British and will, unfortunately, will be assumed to be Christians just because they're white.

I don't practice it but the majority do, and isn't it best if there was one global religion.

It's certainly within his purview as President of the European Commission, the body that ultimately decides such things, far more than it is Mr Swinney's that is for sure. Not wanting to derail this thread, but the SNP do seem to be scrabbling about a bit....I think Lord Lipsey is right when he says its all a bit bizarre...anyway it'll all come out in the wash eventually.

I don't discount it isn't an issue for him, but you seem to be making the problem the papers are. He isn't the Commission, and it seems to start making a bit of a hash of things of late, including lying except the British press didn't want to print it Spain did though. We have the MSM lying, his Office lying a few weeks ago, and now a request for clarity that no one was expected to make.

Swinney isn't making the mistakes the President of the European Commission is though;

The SNP have been consistent from day one, even your beloved Prof. Curtis is of that opinion.

The only scrabbling about is in the MSM. This issue is certainly applying pressure, there is no inconsistency or change of approach or understanding however.

I suggest you resurrect a thread if you want to discuss it further, but I'd research before standing on Barroso's pedestal.

Of the 13 per cent (7.5 million) of residents of England and Wales on 27 March 2011 who were born outside of the UK, just over half (3.8 million) arrived in the last 10 years.

That's a pretty interesting statistic. It does seem that there has been a pretty alarming influx of immigration.

I listened to what Swinney said to the LEAC and frankly it was political non-speak and the earlier statements from the SNP are convoluted and basically seeking to alter the wording of their previous position to make it sound as if their position hasn't changed at all, I find it all very fascinating.

Still, I wasn't really interested in a debate about it is too late in the day and as it has been covered in another thread by others, It was just a friendly nudge ...:p

No joke, just watch the Facts.

This video has been massively debunked and is filled with out right lies including quotes from people who have never said anything they supposedly have according to the video and massive statistical errors. It plays on the really really dumb who will believe anything.

Basically if you watched that video and thought "yea that makes sense" you are part of the problem with this country far more than any immigrant ever.

I don't care about the "white" bit, but I do care about the nationality. If a majority of residents in a capital city identify themselves as being of a different country, that's definitely a cause for concern. We think of conquests in terms of warriors and armies, but in many cases the biggest factor in a conquest was culture and immigration.

Their position hasn't changed as is commented on by the professor in the video.

I haven't heard that discussion in particular, but I've heard him on this subject many times now. It hasn't changed, it's been consistent for many many years.

apparently 95% of newcastle are white.

sounds like BS unless the other 5% are all from pakistan origin and all the chinese moved out

But i would assume the world is leading towards a beige skin colour tone, mixed race.
Indeed, that would be a logical prediction & not that surprising if you consider how our previously isolated racial groups are no longer isolated by continents or mountainous ranges.

Thinking that a certain skin tone should be maintained (for some strange purity reason) is quite frankly an absurd notion & pretty racist (be that any skin tone).

Would anybody care if 50% of the population of London how had blonde hair?, or green eyes? - no, so why should other physical features sit so badly with people.

The only genuine cause for concern is population growth, but that includes nationals who breed at an alarming rate (long term resources availability) - we should be guiding the entire population to have fewer children (more so those who have well above the average, regardless of nationality/ethnicity)

I think the people who are objecting are worried about the effect on their culture rather than what the people making it up look like.

What impact on culture?, you mean when the romans invaded?, or vikings?, the renaissance?, the industrial revolution? or one of our many other historical cultural changes?.

What's peoples obsession with maintaining the status quo (when it's always going to change) - I also fail to see exaclty how people who follow a different cutlure moving to the UK would impact on the culture of the indigenous population.

As long as our laws are maintained to ensure no specific culture dominates another throught the law (perhaps through a strong secular/cultural secularism based constitution), I see no problem.

I would guess that it's an issue of power. Of course, some simple structures to ensure equality avoid this, but it's pretty normal to identify groups and worry about how they might affect your resources. It's a bit of a primitive way to think, but a lot of people still do and don't question themselves.

The problem is that it is difficult to legislate against Cultural change be it progressive or retrograde....and a dominant culture would logically influence the legislature just as much as the population which in turn would hamper any such moves toward a constitution that was in opposition to that dominant culture whatever form it takes....the most obvious example is the United States where their culture is often at odds with the original aims of their constitution which in turn simply means that the constitution is either amended or routinely interpreted according to the prevalent political and cultural bias.

Also I don't think people are obsessed with the status quo, they are however concerned that in some areas of the UK their national and cultural identity is being subsumed by a more dominant and not necessarily more progressive one. In all things therew needs to be balance and currently that is not what is happening in some parts of our cities. This is what happens when you try to socially engineer voting blocks through immigration.

Genuine question, though, but how accurate is this? If it's from census data, not everyone bothers to fill it out anyway. Do they use other sources of data or is this solely on what people have sent back on the forms?
