Whilst searching for a budget video card for a friend, I came across the MSi GTX560Ti 448 on Overclockers for a good price so thought it might be worth a look.
I ordered one and decided to see how it compared to my own Asus GTX560Ti DirectCUII card.

Whilst the performance seemed to be better in all aspects, the noise from the cooling fans was a real let down.
I never really heard my Asus card when working hard but the MSI is like a jet running down a run way!

Is the stock cooler on the MSi card normally that bad or do I just have a bad one?

Anyone else running one? My son has the twin frozr version and his is nice and quiet.

If it's a reference cooler it's not surprising that it's very loud. However, you may be able to make it quieter by setting up a customised fan profile in Afterburner. Keep lowering your load fan speed until temps under load reach into the 70s.

So what is a safe temp to aim for?
I have afterburner installed so will use that as suggested and slowly decrease fan speed to obtain a stable temp.

It depends. If you're not overclocking you could get away with more. Maybe 75C. But if you're overclocking I'd aim for 70C or less.

All stock here.
Will see what I can do and post up the results. Even at no load, idle... Temps are 36 degrees and fan is running at 40% and is fairly loud.

Will see what I can drop my idle fan speed to maintain temps and go from there.

I will be ordering another of these cards for my friend so will see how that runs as well. If its any different ( better ) will try to RMA this one. Like the performance but the noise is really bugging me now. Would buy the Arctic Accelero Xtreme but for the extra £50 I guess I could just get a better card altogether.....

How much did you pay?
I see one listed at £180.
I would suggest looking at the MSI 660 at £160.
Or if you dont mind AMD a 7850 for £150.

Ok, Dumbass n00b question....Using Afterburner, how the hell do I set the fan control to less than the default 40%?

I click on settings, drag the nodes in the fan curve down to 10% etc but nothing. If I drag it to 40% or above it works.

Can I not set it lower than 40%

If it's anything like my 580s with reference coolers then you can only set fan speed from 40-85%, never checked why that is though!

I paid £160 inc postage....I see its up to £180 now...lol

Am going to order the 660 for my friend and see how it performs.

Do that and then go back to the main UI and make sure the 'User Define' button is clicked on and that the 'auto' button is too. That should do it.

Well Im struggling to get this thing to idle at any less than 40%.
Have the latest Afterburner but it just doesnt want to go any less.

Check out this video. I know its really difficult on a phone video but hopefully you can hear whats going on. I started recoding a radio that was on in the kitchen as background noise. Not really loud or really quiet, just on... Gives a reference sound I guess.
Then did fan at 40% front and rear of case, then up to 77% which is what I had whilst gaming after a few minutes. Finally set it to 100%....

Not sure what code to use to embed in the forum.

Well, OC's seem to think there is a problem with the card being that noisy.

I have just installed the MSI GTX660 OC Twin Frozr and not only is the performance better in all the benchmarks I have run, the card is near enough silent at all times.

Will RMA the original 560Ti 448 and get another GTX 660.

Very happy bunny!
