Personal experiance has shown me to never ever pay attention to film reviews, if the film looks interesting (or the source material has you hooked) then go and see it. If you're sat on the fence then don't bother.

Take Skyfall, looked a bit meh to me, went and saw it and my intial impression was right, the film is average, best Bond? hell no.

Besides, it seems quite hip to 'hate' on the Hobbit in certain circles?

It wouldn't surprise me if the film/s is somewhat of a let down, at least for fans of the LoTR trilogy. There just isn't enough gripping material in the Hobbit to fill 8-9 hours of screen time. On top of that the Hobbit is quite similar to the LoTR only aimed at a younger audience, and it's unlikely that many of us have gotten any younger in the last 10 years!

I really loved LOTR, and I like the story of the Hobbit even if it is indeed a little more aimed at a younger audience. However the story will still be better than most screenplay writers could ever hope to write. As far as I'm concerned, it's going to be better than most other films made in this genre. Whether or not it tops LOTR remains to be determined, but overall it should one hell of an adventure.:p

Isn't that exactly how they were in the book though? They're just secondary characters. I remember cringing at all their rhyming names when I read it as a kid.

The dwarf names were taken from Norse mythology, he didn't just make them up to rhyme BTW ;)

I haven't seen the movie yet, and although the story is far more light-hearted than TLOTR, it sounds like they just made them a bunch of clowns like Gimli.

Going to see it tomorrow evening, tempted to go in the morning with a friend as I'm off work / Uni :D

Twice in one day! Hope the evening showing is in 48 frames (I didn't book the tickets)

Not sure I can grab a 48fps showing over here, would be interested in trying it. Will take a look at some of the new screens in bkk to see if any 48fps showings are around. The film does feature a lot of panning and fast moving scenes so will be nice to see how smoothe they are with the increased fps

Just seen it in 3d 48fps. Takes a bit to get used to, but the clarity is amazing. Loved the film, but did feel padded out a bit, could have done with half an hour shaved off to keep the pace up.

Why oh why do they insist on cgi Orcs and goblins, makes them look silly compared to the Lotr ones.

CGI orcs? Damn. I would've thought they'd do a mix of human and cgi at least... Is this done similar to the CGI clone troopers in the Star Wars prequels?:(
