BMW has released first pictures and details of the new four-door 552bhp M6 Gran Coupe

The first four-door model to wear the M6 badge comes complete with a snarling 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with double-clutch transmission, sending it from 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds as it takes on the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG for super-saloon honours.

Based on the 6 Series Gran Coupe, the new car has a unique M bodykit, which includes an aggressive front spoiler, flared wheelarches, side skirts and four exhaust pipes in the rear diffuser. It also has 20-inch alloys, a lowered ride height and a weight-saving carbon-fibre roof.

Dynamic dampers are fitted as standard, as is an M button with a host of steering and throttle settings. Ceramic brakes, however, are an optional extra.

The interior comes with leather upholstery and rear climate control. Boot space is 1,265 litres.

The Gran Coupe should be the best-selling M6 in the UK, with prices expected to start from £98,500 when it arrives in 2013. That’s £25,000 more than the similarly powered M5 saloon.

I think the price is atrocious. I do like it, but to pay £25k over an M5 and the M5 is perfectly capable and infact better looking well in my opinion. I know I know, one is a saloon and the other a coupe. Still I do feel it is too expensive. We are talking R8 money!

To be fair, it looks lovely, and I guess if you had the money and needed the seats it wouldn't be a bad choice, but there are so many better cars for the price....

Looks lovely but I suspect BMW may have bitten off more than they can chew with the price, you're into another prestige step up with that kind of money.

Still, they will hardly be hoping for high volume sales so I dont doubt they'll find homes

Does look nice. Anybody notice that it has 3 belts in the back but a centr console that seems to touch the back seat?

Holy moly. Prices are mental, I wouldn't be buying a BMW with a hundred grand thats for sure. But yeah, it looks sweet. Think of the depreciation:eek:

That looks fantastic! I hope they do sell well as would like to see them on the road :)

It's supposed to be THE best BMW. Why such surprise at the price?

These will sell, fact.

It just comes accross as an "M5+" I guess - I suppose if they'd based the M6 on the regular 6-series, it would seem less suprising. It certainly doesn't have the impact of an 850CSi though, which I'd have thought would be a necessity when up against the likes of Maseratis etc.

I would have thought they would hope the M6 is perceived as a much more luxurious car than the M5. At the end of the day you don't have to be loaded to buy a 5 series, but even the standard 6 series models are significantly more expensive. Thus, being based on the 6 series, this is supposed to be fast as well as luxurious.

If all I want is speed on UK roads then I'll get an M135i and save the £70k :D
