Hi

I really need help on this, this is the last thing I really needed as my life this year as pretty been messed up.

I had a car crash in may, and I reported it over the phone at the time. I just moved house a week before and had not transfer my details across yet. But all seemed fine, I got my details transferred to my new address and my car fixed. I didn't hear anything about it; and when the renewal offer came, I decided to switch car insurance companies.

Today, I went back to work after two weeks off. I was out of the country trying to sort myself out due to relationship and work issues only to find a final demand payment for the repairing of the 3rd party car. I gave the 3rd party my work address as it was the only one I knew since I had just moved.

The deadline for the payment has passed, but I knew nothing about it before hand. My insurance company had my correct address as that's the one they sent the renewal policy and change of details paper work to, and the 3rd party company had contacted me once over the phone to confirm the details of the crash.

I really dont know what to do...

Why are you getting demands for payment if you went through insurance?

As booyaka has said, don't respond to the 3rd party, and pass it over to your old insurance co.

The only issue I can think of is the fact that I have switched car insurance.. but surely that shouldn't affect existing claims?

It shouldn't do, you were covered by the previous insurance company at the time of the accident. Speak to previous insurers and ask them about it, was everything settled etc?

Sorry for being such a drama queen, but it's been sorted..

For the odd reason, its standard policy for that insurance company to send out final notice demands and threaten legal action to both the insurance company and driver.

It was really the last thing I needed.. can't wait till this year is over!

I had one of them 15 years ago, and it was my car that was hit, so I replied with a few choice words, starting with F.

They never replied
