Panasonic Plasma dead after 18 months

It's just upto 6 years in extreme circumstances
Lol it would usually depend on the amount you have initially paid. There would be no problem with a 5 year gurantee on a £1000 tv or thereabouts especially when you take into consideration SOGA gives you 6. Also:

momentum appears to be gathering behind the EC's plan to impose a pan-European guarantee on all products, so you could buy something in Lyons and return it in Manchester. That right may be as little as a year away.

I personally would not expect a £1000 tv to be guaranteed for 5 years, as i would not consider that to be very high end. Although i would expect it to last that long.

Although I'm surprised the original poster had not got the 5 year warranty anyway, with it being Panasonic.

Tbh that call would be made by a judge guided by Soga and the realisation that normal expected lifespan of such item would be within 10 or more years of normal usage. This you would expect to take in to consideration half brightness levels etc. You just have to walk the walk and talk the talk figuratively speaking. ;)
