Replacing my ageing Razer Carachias with something new.

Pairing them with an Essence STX card, mostly gaming but music aswell.

Which is 'better' ?

The closed back 350s' or the open 360s' ? ( I think that the only main difference )

And is the diffence worth the extra £30 ( as i'm pushing my budget a little here :D )

Cheers.

Alternative option, which may sound better and will be cheaper, is to buy a Sennheiser HD558 and use a cheap clip on mic. This is what I use, and they are PERFECT for me in both gaming and music - this is after using quite a few 'gaming' headsets in the past.

350s do not lack bass... you need a powerful sound card

I have the 350s with a mediocre Xonar STX and this Essence and the sound quality is unparalleled with the Essence

Sorry what? Essence? How can you call the STX mediocre and then say the Essence has unparalleled Sound Quality. Essence is the range the Xonar STX is part of, it isn't a product on its own.

I've owned both the PC-350s, the custom PC-350s that came with the Xense bundle and PC-360s. Sound quality wise I couldn't tell a huge amount of difference, but then I'm no audiophile. I ended up keeping the PC-360s and coupled them with an STX, make of that what you will. The closed PC-350s made my ears get hot after a while (likely just me though). I also didn't get on with the whole closed backs, that is however coming from a pair of PC-555s which are open backed, so that is what I was used to and factored into it.

I also strongly disliked the PC-350s ear cushions which make an awful noise when they moved, so if you chew or move even in the slightest it makes an screeching noise, that put me right off them. It is a minor thing and yes I'm aware you can buy them, just for the price I was paying it was a day to day annoyance I couldn't live with and didn't want to spend yet more money to fix something that shouldn't of been a problem in the first place. The PC-360s on the other hand are extremely comfortable and you completely forget you have them on during a long gaming session. I would have preferred 1/4" jacks and a heavier gauge cable on the PC-360s, but that is my only gripe and it is easy to see why they went with 3.5mm ones.

The HD-598s are excellent, if you can get a decent clip on mic, I'd go with that. My issue was finding one that was up to par vs the boom mic on the PC-360s.

I wouldn't say so, but neither are the 360's or the 350's. All are very good, but overpriced. That's what you get with Sennheiser though, you have to pay a premium to get their better products.

What you guys think of a HD 598 + clipon mic for less than £140?

I bought a set of 360s, wasn't that impressed and found the Mic a bit too bulky. the next day I bought a pair of 598s and im so glad that I did, they are a lot better imo. I had a cable crawler Mic already so that wasn't a problem and I passed the 360s on to a friend.

Thx for the replies, all very useful.

Seems to be mixed opinions, which is understandable whenever audio is involved, as it a personal thing.

I've picked up a pair of 'hardly used' PC 350s' for £50 so i'll give them a blast first.

Easier than spending 3 times that and being dissappointed.

Thanks again :)
