Just back from watching it. I did not like the 3D 48fps, it felt sped up and awkward. That is the first film I have watched in 3D and I found it too gimmicky and distracting.

Onto the film then. Now I have not read The Hobbit or any of the LOTR books. So I did not know what to expect. But if you enjoyed the LOTR films, you will enjoy The Hobbit. It's not perfect, it drags on a bit at the start. But it's nice to see some of the old characters and to me it felt more like a prelude to The fellowship of the ring.

8/10.

No no. I knew it was a prequel of sorts. But I expected the 3rd one to kinda bridge more into fellowship. I don't want to get into spoiler territory. But as I've never read the books I'm not best to take notice off.

Just saw this and WOW. Easily my film of the year and I have no idea what some of the critics were on about with 3D HFR. It was nothing short of brilliant and doesn't even take getting used to. For me, it felt so natural where normal 3D would have made my eyes tired after a while.

Agreed Helios...although I haven't seen it in HFR...yet!

I actually thought the standard 3D was very well done and very subtle to add the desired depth.

Absolutely loved the film from start to finish, it's great to experience middle earth again! :D

I enjoyed the 3D in the sense that it wasn't used as a gimmick but rather for a sense of depth to the film. I still would have rather seen it in 2D but all the showings tonight were 3D.

The 48 frames were fantastic :)

Easily my film of the year, but it was always going to be. Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic. Loved every second of it. Loved all the references and gah! Just utterly brilliant.

It's so good to be back in Middle Earth, safe in the hands of Mr Jackson :)

I have one slight issue, in that in some shots because of the 48 frames and blah, that some things looked a little 'BBC production' from an age gone by, but meh, that is really nit picking.

You mean the "soap opera" effect as some people seem to be calling it.

Tickets bought for Leicester Square next Thursday, Royal Circle! Hope its worth it!

I only got it in a couple of shots, towards the very start, but that's nit picking. I think it's more that once you adjust to the visual style of the film then it ceases to be a 'thing', I really only got that feeling in the opening to the film.

It's brilliant, as expected from Mr Jackson :)

I disagree about 3D being the future :p

It's been around for a long time and it's just going through another fad. It will hopefully die out soon.

However, the higher frames has a place in the future ;)

Disagree all you want.... if anything HFR is cementing 3D's status as the future of cinema. ;)

Very good, enjoyed being back in middle earth.

But it just felt like a mini LOTR without the EPICness, and I really want to fire up all the extended editions right now and fly through them#1

Not a fan of 3D at all. Just feels distracting instead of enriching the experience of a film. Won't go into detail, but the story isn't too far off the book, not as changed as LOTR was.

Saw it tonight. Feel like I enjoyed it more than LOTR which I didn't expect to! Maybe it's because I get to go back to a world that I got into lots due to LOTR, so seeing something new (to me) in Middle Earth was mega exciting. :)

I don't get the reviews saying its overblown and too long.. I loved seeing more of Middle Earth, its a pleasure having such time there.. More time in that world the better!

3D is such a distraction, the reason (beyond obvious limitation in technology, which we still are) we created 2D images was so we could see as much as we could within the screens capacity, without it any of it going into peripheral vision, where it may or may not solidify in the mind.

Of course technically its 2.5D, where the .5 is the depth that is naturally or artificially there, but that's not part of my point.

I can say that I will never bother with such a trivial cashgrab.
