That time of Year: Xmas bonus and pay rises

yeah its my fault iv screwed up my leg working that means i cant do anything where id be on my feet all day. i had to quit the job i was doing (agency so got sod all for that).

at the moment i get to hit gym a couple of times a week (static weights for some reason dont effect it and actually help me) and walk the dog for 3 miles a day and thats my limit. but dont worry im sure its all my fault for working a physically demanding job for min wage.

damn my lazy ways.

im sure there are jobs i could do but thanks to living in a small northern town full of not very much im rather screwed (my work program adviser even said that to me), but im sure im just not looking hard enough.

Grow up, your situation sucks, its unfortunate but only you can pull your self out of it, don't get all huffy at those who do well for themselves.

Only been in my current job since October so not expecting a pay rise or bonus before Christmas. In the past year though I've had a 30% pay rise through changing jobs and am pretty much at the top of what I can expect to earn doing IT support.

There are plenty of jobs out there if you have the right skills.

the "electrical engineering' thread reminded me that many of us who have earned a bonus don't receive any kind of overtime pay because we are in salaried position.

The last weeks I have been putting in 60-70 hour weeks trying to get our project up and running for a customer. If the customer is happy they might invest millions of USD in or technology. hence there is a direct award for helping the company succeed by working overtime we get rewarded with a bonus.

I would certainly prefer overtime pay because over the year that would amount to literally 10x what my bonus was!

Managed a 46% pay rise in the last year. I worked my balls off for that.

Have just landed a 4% bonus for christmas which was secured yesterday, so i'm happy, 2012 has been good career wise. :)

I used to get a turkey as a xmas bonus with a company I used to work for, id didnt go down too well so to speak when I found that out.

Im debating what to give my employees for bonus this year, we have had a great year however we had an absolute stinker last year so ill probably give them the same as then.

What incentive is there for your employers if after improving their performance and having a great year you give them the same bonus as after a bad year? Begs the question what you gave them after having a bad year I suppose.

Turnover up 75%, profit up 60% this year on top of the 23% turnover and 15% profit increase the year before.

The company won and successfully completed the biggest contract they had ever had in it's history.

Result? Another year of payrise freezes and no Christmas bonus.:(

EDIT: Reason given: Profit should have been 1.42% higher but we all messed up.

Seems reasonable if the investment required to achieve those turnover and profit growths is high.

The only "investment" was additional staff. We had the space.

However, "additional staff" did not include any additional administration/office people so obviously such an increase in turnover has resulted in a massive increase in everybody's workload.

Not had a pay rise in the three years I've been with the company and my bonus will probably be another one-year membership for the Jelly of the Month club.
