Hi Guys

I'm looking at a seminar at Oxford Brookes University and wondering whether to drive or get a train.

From anyone local to Oxford is the university near a train station or is it a bit of hassle to get there?

Cheers

Google maps? Really?

It's about 2 miles down the road from the train station in the centre of Oxford.

Probably as quick to walk it as it is to get the bus though.

The train station is west Oxford, the Oxford Brookes University is East Oxford so they are a fair distance apart.

If you get the train it's a 2 / 3 minute walk to the centre of Oxford, you can then get a bus to Oxford Brookes which should take around 5 / 6 mins.

If you drive aim for the Thornhill park and ride which is near to Headington, the bus stops at Oxford Brookes on the way into the centre.

Oxford Brookes does have a few campuses so you might want to check which you need, the main one is on Gipsy Lane / Headington Road.

Thats exactly where it is.

Then ignore the advice above about getting to Headington. You'll need to get the U1 Brookes Bus from Oxford city centre (High Street) to Wheatley campus.

Here's the timetable....

And here's its route map:

Check out the 'vacation timetable' though as you didn't say when this seminar was....

If it's the Wheatley one then just drive as it's no where near the train station. Worth asking them first if there's somewhere to park for you. Most of the places here are notoriously tight on parking space. You don't want to get there and find all the spaces are usually gone by 8.30am.

If that's where it is then drive, it's really not that far from the M40.

Several years ago I went to a couple of automotive seminars there, think I had to have a parking permit but driving there was very easy.

The roads around the campus aren't (or at least weren't when I was there) marked so people would just park up the side of the A road alongside it. They may have put lines there now though.

Usually you need a permit, but if you're going to a pre-arranged seminar, out of term time you should be OK.

Brilliant thanks guys. The seminar is on the 10th January so looks like its the vacation timetable for the bus.

I'll have a look at train fares to see if it makes more sense to train it/drive one way or another.
