This morning my wife approached me and asked why I had 'liked' a video of some bikini clad women on Failbook.

I hadn't liked the video, nor had I even watched it but sure enough it showed up as having been 'liked' by me in my Timeline Activity Log.

Two minutes later, it showed that my wife had liked it as well :p

According to this BBC News article:-

However the article goes on further to state:-

Well the video in question showed up on a friend's news feed, not a private message, so I question whether they had known about it as well.

Pretty annoying that this could happen without my consent.

Oh and in before 'lol Facebook', but at least it isn't Twitter.

Is this the '17 year old did this when drunk OMG!' or similar video? It keeps popping up on my feed, although suspiciously only males seem to have liked it ;-)

Get on your privacy settings and trawl through the section on adverts, there are sections in there relating to exactly this!

If you think thats bad... look at your activity log... they've started logging all kinds of random stuff in there that you might not have actually done like assuming you've been searching for something based on searching for something similiar - I can potentially see some issues there if someones partner browsers their other halfs activity log without understanding what its doing.

thanks to this post i now understand a very odd convo on fb the other day.

i saw a family member in the usa like a video about some girl killing herself, almost the exact same name as the one you posted if not the one, so i click to view and then get some pop up on a random page as this it's a facebook pop up, you know the white box with rounded corners and a blue border, saying i need to update youtube so install something. this is obviously some sort of virus/spyware, so i told the family member to do some checks as she may have a virus, but she seemed to have no idea what i was on about when i was saying that video, but this is obviously the same situation in that she didn't ever like the video but facebook shows it as though judy likes it. what ****s

But you had tried to watch it ;)

This doesn’t quite get victims off the hook…
Ok, all of this is very tricky and those who get caught feel a bit embarrassed and violated, but it still requires the victim to actually click on the video. It only works if they are interested in seeing what that shocking activity the 15 year old with half her backside hanging out was doing each day at school!

first world problems, will we ever get over them?

Yeah, the erosion of all online privacy is such a "first world problem", why should anyone possibly be bothered if some company is monitoring their web-activity and libellously associating them to content that they've never even viewed.

 Numpty.

This scam isn't anything to do with facebook privacy.

The scam is standard redirect, that can be applied to any web page. Basically it is nothing more than you think you're clicking to watch the video, but you are actually clicking the 'like' button.

There is no video, hence why the OP has never watched it. But he has tried to watch it. And in doing so, he clicked the 'like' button, he just didn't know it!

That's because she's done the same as what you did.

She saw the video on your feed and tried to watch it. In doing so (like you) she got redirected and clicked on an invisible 'like' button.

It will never cease to amaze me why so many people (including me) still use Facebook even though we all know it's like inviting a thief and stalker into your home.

not if you set your privacy settings properly and don't click on dumb stuff...

aside from observing those 2 simple things, it's a great tool for keeping in contact with friends far away
