ArmA II - Mission Night

Looking to have a night of Patrol Ops tonight. You don't need any add-ons as we are keeping this vanilla (the server will allow you to use JSRS, RWS and Blastcore Visuals if you have them).

Will probably start about 6/7ish. If you have ArmA II but never played it then now is a good opportunity to learn the basics and play with some vehicles and weapons. Post here if you are interested and I will edit this post with the details a bit later.

Here's a quick run-down of Patrol Ops:

Inspired by Takistan Force, Patrol Ops is a 32 Player dynamic, random mission series that is great for both Mass Public Play and Clan Tactical Gaming.

Missions are randomly dynamic, with enemy force strength scaled to match the number of players connected so as to challenge players appropriately.

Vanilla, ACE and ACRE are supported in a single mission PBO and will adapt the gameplay and equipment to match the servers settings.
Player Class types denote access to specific gear and vehicles to strengthen the realism.

A focus on co-operative team based gameplay is the principle of Patrol Ops

I'd love to Melbo but headed out tonight, not sure if it would be worth turning up for only half an hour or so? :(

I got over 100gig of footage from tonight. Shame everyone who was playing had a potty mouth! That and I can't be bothered to edit it!

Annoyed that I had to leave, just as the base started to be attacked as well!!

We can try other missions if others are up for up..

Sorry I had to leave early, just as it was getting good!

I didn't swear much, if once melbo! Blame the Scots ;)

Look forward to the next one!

I think next time we will shelve the Longbow, way too OP for these missions. Can try another Saturday night if anyone is up for it.

Another reason to use ACE/ACRE. While it makes the CAS assets more powerful, it makes them extremely complex to use :P Playing with fire trajectories and missile types and laser codes etc. all fun.

I'm not too sure about that, is this like a really, really recent addition?
Because you still tab to lase and it compensates for range, hellfires/mavs still use a lock target and with nou's CCIP/CCRP bombing it makes dumb bombs easy as pie.

They're still overpowered, especially for low player counts, the best thing to do with CAS is to have them on station and call them in for specific targets, if they go hog wild and do what they want it ruins it for everyone most of the time.

Of course they're over powered they're supposed to be! lol

Here are a few pointers we use for CAS.

When we play a mission, even if its domination, patrol ops style where pubbers and people join randomly all day. When we as a clan come on, we regroup everyone online at base.

We consolidate everyone on TS and ask the remaining who are not willing to join TS to leave. (dont need a mic, just to be able to hear)

We form into fireteams and squads. We assign additional assets (jets, choppers, transport, tanks etc) keeping usually 1-2 heavy assets + transport for a group greater than 15.

We keep a tight leash on the CAS. Lets say we have A10s. We make them take primarily GBUs, forcing them to be guns or GBU. This means they NEED guys on the ground to spot targets, choose attack vectors and mark the targets with either smoke or lasers etc. The GBU with ACE is hard (no tab locks) you need the correct altitude, speed, LOS from GBU tip to laser mark. angle of attack and release point. So you need experienced pilots to hit laser targets.

For apaches. The same thing, get a JTAC on comms with the apache. ONLY let them enguage vehicles and only with your permission or if it poses a direct and immediate threat to them.

For these persistant mission times like patrol ops and domi. Think about your objective, and player count before asigning CAS roles. you dont need 2 A10s, an F35. 4 blackhawks, 2 cobras and an apache. Reign them in. get them on the ground and playing as teams. And asign reliable pilots.

We like to give new guys a chance to fly, but they will have a trusted pilot leading them and guiding them.

CAS can be tricky. It is sometimes still an issue where a pubber jumps on while we're mid mission and just bombs everything to hell.

On our server personally, we are extremely team focused (not anal millsim mega crazy) but teamwork and teamplay. So we quickly profile and kick none team players. We dont give them the space to enjoy themselves on our server. Play with the team or play elsewhere :P
