Just got myself a p170em with a bluray drive in, stuck transformers blu-ray in and typically, windows media player doesn't support that video type!

Just curious as to what free software people use to play Blu-Ray's?

Only had 1 disc with it containing all of the laptop drivers and utilities, nothing on it points towards blu-ray playback software though... :S

Free software? There is no "all-encompassing" free BR player. VLC does some I believe, but not all.

I found Corel Windvd to be the best full player.

My preference is anydvdhd in the background to decrypt it, then mpc-hc as the player. Doesn't show the menus though

Well I can tell you what not to get PowerDvD. I cant play BlueRays unless I pay for updates, so I got rid of it.

Didn'trealise that blu-ray players needed software, so i'm pretty disappointed that OCuk doesn'tprovide some sort of software but hey ho, looks like i'll fork out for a paid one so i don't have to sod about. :p

After researching Blu-Ray on PC and with this such issue coming up among many I actually (through sorta gritted teeth) went and dunked my head into iTunes 1080p movie purchases. For me it's a quite decent solution.

But I like the shiny disks and at least the pretence that I own what I buy.

Pretty much this. I think Cyberlinks software is dire & to be avoided at all costs.

I use Bledd's solution, though for the life of me I just cannot get MPC-HC to bitstream HD audio to my AV Receiver. I use mad VR as the renderer and LAV filters (these are generally recommended by others on various discussion sites on the internet, AVSforums being one of them)

TBH with the prices of stand alone blu-ray players these days & the price of power dvd 12 (about 55 quid?) I know where my moneys being spent.
