yellow-ish stuff on engine oil cap (BMW)

It is short journeys.

Its not due to cam cover being made of a different material

With short journeys the engine doesn't get hot enough to clear all the moisture. It mixes with the oil and you get mayo

Clean as much of it out as you can then take it for an "Italian" tune up & check it again.

Doesn't look that much in the pic, I'd expect it to clear after a damn good thrashing.

Many BMW's do this when used exclusively for short trips around town. Mine does and has done for years. No need to 'drop the oil' or 'change the coolant'.

I get a bit of that (nothing like as bad though, more like a few creamy swirls around oil filler cap opening(the bit that sits under the plastic cap)). I've just always thought it's a bit of condensation.

lol this car doesn't have a dipstick. oil level is checked digitally.

Well not ever owned a BMW or any car that does not have a dip stick in favour of a digital display, what a stupid idea - call me old fashioned, perhaps i just like to physically check how much oil i have. :)

Give it a good run out and it'll be right again :)

+1

No need for an italian tune-up or anything like that. Take it for a normal drive, throw in some motorway miles and that mayo should clear up just fine.

Of course, if you do lots of short trips in this weather, expect it to reappear.

My gfs car had this when I first met her. She used to drive about 2 miles to work

It was all gone after one drive down south, 450 miles ish

my mums a class had this when we got it from a dealer.

gave it a blast down the dual carriageway and it was fine. just needs to be used.

if its still there after a week then investigate further
