*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Just managed to wipe out a group of 8 TR by placing 2 proximity mines close together in a Bio control point. Love those mines. Easy kills.

Engineer is slowly becoming my favorite over my heavy assault. Still can't fly very well though;p

Yup i've pretty much ditched my HA the last couple of days. I've enjoyed Engineer so much more and feel like i bring something other than rocket spam now. I love Anti Tank mines and Prox Mines too!

Still can't seem to settle on a class. Will try engineer next (the only one I haven't tried).

For me really you need to join an outfit that way you can find 2 or 3 roles that you can fill as the situation demands and work with others who you regularly play alongside. Its then that this game really shines. I'm mainly a medic but also have some MAX setups and engineer depending on what my outfit needs and how our attack/defense is going.

Had a really good session this evening with the engineer class - the turret is useful, as is the ability to repair vehicles.

Had a few few large battles and very little slow down, so very happy with that.

I don't get the payment model though - is there really that much incentive to put money into this game?

Seems a bit of a waste to give up instead of adapting to your gun. Basically it appears that you are quitting since your gun is no longer OP. Which it was.
It was OP - It's now probably the worst gun in the game. I recommend you give it a try if you can't appreciate how utterly **** it is. The cone of fire might as well be as wide as the map for all the difference it makes in hitting stuff more than 10m away.

The MSW-R and T16 are the new alternatives, but I'd rather wait until more of the balance (NC whine will probably get these two nerfed too) and bug issues have been ironed out. There are only so many times you can reload the game because the graphics start flickering or you respawn dead...

Adapt, and learn. Plus 60 hours of Certs should be sufficient to allow you to have enough spare after leveling up your Heavy Assault to spec up another class and vehicle:)
As I said, most of those certs went into HA, I have decent Nanite shields and Nanoweave armour plus a bunch of upgrades for a now useless gun. I'm glad I haven't spent anything on this game!
I would play Light Assault but that's still bugged. Medic and Engineer are ok but not really that interesting for me and Infiltrator couldn't be less appealing if it tried...

I'll give it another try after Christmas or something, maybe Higby will have put a bullet through his skull and some decent changes can be made. :)

You don't need to but if you want to build up classes and vehicles it is easier. I've got 2 new weapons on my scythe, 2 for my lightning, and a new gun for my engineer. That works out (on the top of my head) roughly about 5000 certs.

I don't mind buying the gear. I like the game, and the amount I have spent is no different that if I had to purchase the game upfront. This means all my certs I have earned has been put towards actually improving the classes, and vehicles rather than weapons.

Sitting on over 1700 kills now. The lightning tank is a beast with the high impact aoe shells:)

oh, and I've also bought new helmet/armour and camo for my eng and heavy assault too;p

The T9 CARV (Stock) nerf has severely harmed TR's Heavy Assault. Even with my level 5 nanite shield, forward grip and reflex sight I'm struggling to win fights that were almost guarenteed victories before.

The weapon swap time is so slow that it's quicker for a VS to hop in a magrider, fire the cannon and then hop out to shoot their LMG.

Does TR have anything that's marginally better than the other factions any more? (Besides the pistol which I never use)

Edit: I rolled VS just to see what it was like just now. Light assault, BR1 and I massacred people for 20 minutes. Damned Vanu are easy mode. It did feel nice to have a gun that actually shoots where you point it...

They sure do, the Prowler.

LOL

The incentive is basically if you want to a) progress faster there is subscription or station cash to unlock things faster and b) if you want cosmetic items to make yourself look different then you need to buy them with station cash.

By progress I mean having more utility rather than necessarily becoming more powerful. If I unlock the Armour piercing gun for my factions Main Battle Tank with station cash, I can then spend the 1000 certs it would have cost me on upgrading the gun with stuff like more ammo, zoom optics, faster reload times, rather than just buying it and then having to grind more certs (1 cert = 250xp).

How a lot of people in my outfit are doing it is buying station cash only when they do double or triple offers (probably one right before Xmas) and then using that to buy weapons that would cost like 1000 certs.

Others have a subscription because they just love the game and it works for them. Some just spend nothing. Its really up to you and how much of a grind you think you can put up with.

There are certain weapons, particularly for vehicles where unlocking them gives you an advantage e.g. air to air or air to ground rockets for aircraft. Each would cost 1000 certs which would take a long time to get. But most of the weapons are what they're calling 'sidegrades' in that they aren't supposed to just be a definitively better weapon just to do things better in certain situations, with a trade off. For example as an NC anti-infantry max you might get the Scattercannon which is a semi-auto shotgun. Or you could get the Hacksaw which is a fully auto shotgun. The trade off is you have a high initial burst of fire with the hacksaw but a longer reload time and slightly less accuracy.

I've uninstalled the game for now, mainly because a lot of my certing was around the Heavy + CARV. Without that I've basically lost 60+ hours of certs and have no option to get another gun through certs. Ho hum!

Probably for the best. I run a TR Heavy and a Vanu Heavy, the TR MCG is better than the VS Lasher in most circumstances. My T5 is better than the Pulsar with the same attachments. Really, theres not enough in it to say any one side is overall better than the other.

Hiya all,
Downloaded this last night and it's a blast, only problem is i can sometimes get low fps in big firefights.
A quick look on the forums suggests that i "unpark" my cores on my fx4100.
Any truth in this?

It probably won't help that much if at all. It's a known issue that most people have. Apparently there is a patch coming out at the start of next year that will drastically improve things.

Things not going your way? Then it's time for a galaxy suicide run!

I was providing fighter support, bit pointless looking back at it now, like giving a sucide bomber a helmet :p

I would love to be able to run this game at any setting higher than absolute minimum settings. I love the art style which is evocative to me at least of Dune and related works of fiction, and is such a refreshing change from the generic present-day setting of most shooters. What kind of card do you need to run this game maxed?

Also, is there an OCUK platoon? I've trawled this thread for an answer to no avail, but I would be keen to apply!

Thanks
