I am planning a trip to Paris in Jan, think of it as a nice little surprise romantic break for a few days.

Actually trying to make it romantic for Mrs psd99. I am just your average male, not very romantic but I would like to make it very special for her and me, as she is beautiful and I really do love her!

I got the flights booked because of the lateness the flights worked out better than the train.
First point of talk is where shall we stay and which hotel?

I got the eiffel tower in mind, maybe a boat trip on river if possible, anything else?

I think there are a few nice hotels that give a full view of the Eiffel tower, maybe worth researching along those lines?

Never been there, but apparently the restaurant up the Eiffel is really good.

The Bristol and The George V are both awesome hotels, not cheap but if it's in budget and you'd like a trip to remember well worth it.

Ton's of good cheaper options as well of course, Rue Saint Honore is a good place to start. Loads of options at every price point.

Try and book a table at Black Calvados (owned by Chris Cornell) as well.

Just seen the bristol wow looks amazing but would need the salary of a footballer to fund that! 2k for three nights

Im thinking 500 quid max on three nights stay

I took my wife a couple of years back and stayed here http://ares-paris-hotel.com

We had their suite with a circular bed on the top floor which was still small but it's very boutique and just a 5 min walk from the tower and we could see the top of it from the window. I don't like big hotels, my preference is always to hire an apartment but this was ok and a nice balance of quiet and house like. Most of the other rooms are very small but if you want boutique this is good and some nice places to eat close to it and it sits in the antique area if that's you thing with a nice antique (read expensive) shopping area behind it.

Don't expect big city hotel, but if you want to chill out its a good shout.

Lol thanks guess it is more than 500 quid

Here it is

“Very nice but less hotel and more B&B we felt.”
Reviewed 11 April 2010

My wife and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at Hotel Ares Eiffel in Paris so I felt I should write a review whilst it is still fresh in my mind. We decided to book the suite, the one you see in all the pictures and on their website and this is a pleasant enough room but not something I think justifies the term 'suite'. The room was very nicely decorated, very clean and did allow for a view of the top 2/3's of the Eiffel Tower over the roofs of the houses opposite, but as has been said elsewhere it is, like all the rooms in the hotel, very small. We are aware that many hotel rooms in Paris are small as we have stayed in Paris many times, but many are not and if you are seeking space to stretch out you might wish to shop around. As I said in the title for this review I think this hotel has more in common with a B&B rather than a hotel as added to the small rooms it has neither a restaurant, a bar or other hotel like facilities. Now to my wife and I this was a positive as we like a quiet hotel and our suite did not suffer from some of the noise transfer mentioned in other reviews but I think hotel Ares should take on board some of the comments in the reviews most of all PLEASE put a coffee making facility, ideally a nice Espresso machine into the rooms as most people like to have a nice relaxing coffee during their stay, whilst in their room. Also, make sure the air conditioning actually works and isn’t something you decided when it can be used or not. We found the room became too hot at night and were told that the air conditioning wasn’t working yet, i.e. the condensers were not switched on so it heated nicely but didn’t cool, which we can only imagine was a decision controlled by reception.

The location we felt worked well being nicely positioned to walk to many of the main tourist sports but being off the track just enough not to attract the worst elements of the tourist areas such as ‘foreigner’ food and people trying to sell you crap. There are a number of nice little cafe’s and restaurants within close walking distance and lots of interesting antique shops if this is your thing literally 50 yards from the front door of the hotel and being in a more residential location has it’s benefits, to us at least, come bed time with very little noise (from our 7th floor room) from outside. I have seen some people critacising the location but we felt this is unreasonable. If you want to be smack in the centre of the tourist areas book a hotel there, if you are happy to be 1/2 miles from them then this is fine for you.

Overall we were happy with our stay there and would go again. It is far from the 5th/6th best hotel in Paris, which the reviews on this site may lead some to believe, but having said this if you seek a quiet, small, quaint and nicely presented hotel that has more in common with a small family B&B than a Hotel the Hotel Ares Eiffel may suite you down to the ground. If you want good room space, facilities for getting pampered or even a coffee in your room when you want, bars, night life all around and tourist buses ready to take you all over Paris you might wish to look elsewhere. At 390euro’s a night the suite was not good value compared to other hotels we have stayed at but we found it quiet and discreet which is exactly what we wanted.

Should be able to stay at a decent 5 star in the centre of town and have a meal at a nice resturant for £100.

Are you being serious..? £100 a night with food for two in a good restaurant?

First mistake... ;) I took the eurostar there this summer and would now never take the plane. Two hours and you're in central paris, I paid £10 extra each way and got premium economy with loads of leg room and some very nice food. Although I guess if you don't live near London it may be a bit more acceptable to suffer economy flights and the Paris airports 30 miles from Paris!;)

I stayed in http://www.hotels.com/ho135228/mercure-paris-champs-elysees-paris-france/ pretty nice, but small, rooms but right in the centre of town so you can walk to the Arc de triumph, the river and the champs Elysee. It was one of the cheaper central paris hotels when I looked but there are some further out that are cheaper (although I was pretty constrained when looking for hotel locations).

I'd look at the Northern Areas near Sacre Coeurr

Stayed there myself, slightly out of the way of Parisian hustle and bustle, some nice greenery around and from the steps of the Sacre Couerr itself there is a cracking view of the Tower

I stayed here a few months ago http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwes...es-Opera/Hotel-Overview.do?propertyCode=93748

It's quite a small hotel and the rooms are tiny too but they're very modern and clean , its an easy area to use as a base with plenty of transport options available , there's a huge amount of places around the area to eat including some nice little patisseries and brasseries or a Hard Rock Cafe if that's more your thing , I really enjoyed my stay there.

For your romancing maybe get some fancy macaroons , premium French chocs and champagne , devour them in bed with your misses
(don't overdo it or any bouncing up and down will make one of you vomit ;) )

I can recommend these

Very nice chocolates but very rich ,boutique shop and it's not far from le louvre

Again very nice , we also had macaroons for here , really nice but they do some strange flavours heh but probably my favourite of the two shops

For any attractions try to book tickets before going, we queued for hours for the tower , the queues were huge for le louvre too but we bought tickets from the virgin megastore close by to the hotel and skipped the queues, Notre Dame also had huge queues so never bothered with it, worth a visit just to see though.
A boat trip down the seine is a must just sit back and take it all in.

Hmmm reminiscing about my trip I now have a craving for a freshly baked pain au chocolat
