payg desire help

so my mum gave me her htc desire today - chucked in my payg sim, hardly did anything and bang - £13 credit gone!

checked the internet and saw i could put the yourorange app on.
ok, topped up £10 on my old phone, put it in the new phone attempted to get the app, and bang - credit totally gone! didn't even manage to get the app.

this seems ridiculous.

does this sound right to anyone?
i thought i would be able to use it a little on payg??? checked my orange acc online and its listed as ap-prepaidsessiowith stupid amounts of money next to it.
am i doing anything wrong or is this just how much it costs??
 
What is the data cost on your tariff?

Didn't it used to be £3 a meg? If your sim old enough it may not have the current costs/price caps.

There will be some kind of bolt on you can buy to give you a few hundred megs for a few quid.

You can also look at the settings on your phone and turn off background sync and the play store to check apps don't auto update.
 
i think i need to go to the orange shop because i have no idea!

i'm on the dolphin tariff and thought that would be ok, but i guess not!
 
anyone know why i cannot seem to be able to do anything on my virgin media wifi?
my phones connected and it says the signal is excellent but i can't seem to be able to do anything!
