Thinking about upgrade to Focus ST-3

I was told it would need a regular blast of the turbo weekly to keep it in shape.

Not really, although you'll find it difficult not to as you'll want to drive it for that engine noise alone :P

Get a simple Stage 1 remap too and it makes it a whole different car all over again!

Well I do love the Ford Focus MK2.5. Not a fan of the new style. I like sensible + adrenalin all wrapped up in one in the ST - it felt like two cars rolled into one. Split personality :D

What sort of special d'you reckon is better? I'm still all ears, I haven't committed to anything yet! Must admit, do like the 350Z. There aren't any in my area though for sale at a dealer/garage. Would need to be for part-ex.

To some people, a Focus ST is a special kinda car.

Different perceptions by different people, let's not be close minded and forget that...

I say do it :)

one has come up locally

the ST-3 is £10,900.

it's a 58 plate

I'm all for indulgence, but £10.9k sounds like a lot of money for a 4 year old last gen Focus?

Haven't got time to check it out right now, but I'd have hoped you could do a lot better than that (I mean a better value ST-3 rather than a different car, as you seem pretty set on one) if you looked around a bit further afield?

At £11k I'd have an S2000, 350Z, TT, Z4, & M3 on my shortlist, especially with that sort of mileage, even if it was only to cement the ST-3 being the right car for you... :)

For less than 1k miles, I wouldn't bother personally, it's only a focus after all, get something a bit more special.

I drive, one of the most modded, if not the most modded Focus ST's on this forum, so I know how good they can be to own, so I wouldn't say I'm close minded about them, they're good cars, handle well, fairley quick. Just if you only do 1k miles a year, and have over £10k to spend over, I think a fast family hatchback would be lower down the possible list.

Personally I'd probably pick up something like a vx220 turbo, I'm sure there are loads of other motors that would appeal though. The likes of the 350/370 are a bit too big and comfy though (it's all relative) if you're only using it for a quick bit of fun.

Thanks for the heads up on other cars - hadn't known about some of those. 350Z is on the list, just none in the neighbourhood that aren't private sales. 370 is out of my price range it seems.

Not into the TT or the S2000 or VX220, but I do like the M3 and the Z4 definitely - hadn't thought of those, thanks for spotting them out for me.

The M3s I can see in price range are all pretty old and high mileage though (~2005) and I'd ideally want no earlier than an 08 plate (same as my current car) with max 40,000 miles or so (mine has done 31k - all bar 2k of that was the previous owner haha no laughing please :P). There's an M3 2007 with 42k on the clock for £20k so that is double my budget :(

Couple of Z4s in the area though...will go and check them out.

Do like the ST though, must admit. The Z4 would have to really outdo it.

Then I think you may struggle to get anything more special than the ST. So only other considerations are other small hot hatchbacks really...

Im starting to want an ST now, quiet liked my mates, only think that stood out to me was how plasticy the interior was but that doesnt bother me too much. Seems like the ideal car for me.

One question do the leather seats fold down in the back, need to be able to fit my bike in. Would need something like 2 years to save for one anyway, they seem about £8k for a decent one with less than 60k on them.

With the leather interior you only get 2 seats in the back, and yes they do fold down all the way.
