I was in a car auction last week and they had some used MOD cars going through.
i was explained the process,
ie.
Car has to be towed/carried from auction centre as its unregistered therfore not road legal.
I have to get an mot and insurance just off the chassis number as its unregistered.
Then i have to re-register the car
This whole process can take upto 2 weeks.
Then i have to go to a main tax office to get the road tax.

Its just a general query, as they were the basic spec, but they all came with a FSH, and were a lot cheaper than a comparable registered car.

Ex MOD minibuses are usually a pretty good buy. They get abused like all mnibuses, however they are mechanically sound and usually go at a good price. Not sure about the MOD cars. From my experience they do get a fair amount of abuse as many are driven solo rather than with a bunch of superiors/minions who would report rubbish driving.

Wife has had 2 MOD cars and each one has been a qual buy (both Fiestas Diesel) as you say knock down price and yes their is a bit of hassle but she is of the opinion they are value for money and would certainly buy one again. Her current MOD one has only done 40K and has never had any problems flies through MOT.

Well looked after by the Mechanics but the ones I've seen have either abused by drivers or only driven very short trips around a base (i.e less than 1mile multiple times a day)

lets say i feel sorry for anyone that purchases any MOD vehicle white or green fleet that has been driven by me.
i dont have to fix them = no mechanical sympathy

I always wonder why people think/do this
I'm exaggerating of course, however all the same, i dont show it the same care as i do my own pride and joy, i have no attachment to it, nor does the department it belongs to, so long as i comes back in one piece without any dings, if it breaks it gets fixed, simple as that.
If anything its keeping the reme workshops in a job, cant have them sitting about drinking brews whilst i'm working hard:p

For the last couple of years our vehicles have been fitted with drives(GPS tracking) and the ragging stopped. If its had it fitted you might get a good one. Would I have one, he'll no, not worth the risk. I know how I drive them nod I'm steady.

What you have to remember is that a lot of them are used to drive around base, so stop start journeys constantly from cold and getting ragged on base.

Our old combi had done 15k or so, felt like it had done 100k plus. They are serviced regularly and if everyone is doing their job checked before use and weekly (this is doubtful).

Now they have GPS tags on them, very doubtful they get ragged as much if their not just used on base.
