For what ever reason my toilet has decided it doesn't quite want to flush. I push the handle down, it makes the noise as if it is going to flush but a bit of water trickles out. I have taken the back off and tried opening the valve directly (pulling on the bit the flusher connects to) but still no luck.

I don't suppose any of the fine OcUK handy men know what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Flare

Is the cistern filling completely? could be a bit of debris stopping the valve shutting properly? Manually flushing should work if it's full, so could be something blocking the valve? Does the water trickle out?

Haha, ah the amusing replies did amuse me :D

I have managed to sort it out; I got some pliers out, pretended like I was a pro and everything fell in to place.

Man points received!

Certainly sounds like the diaphragm. They are less than a quid to replace usually.
Having said that I patched ours up with packing tape 12 months ago and its still going strong.

easy enough to fix, op goes away thinking its easy and floods his house because the bolts were all rusted up, cistern glued to the tiles and water doesnt quite turn off..

depends on the job but most of these things arent easy enough to change unless you've been doing it for years like wyrdo
