Hi

I'm looking at buying a decent amp and creating a 5.1 surround system.

What films would you recommend me buying?

So far I got

Saving Private Ryan
All of the Lord of the Rings
Full Metal Jacket
Avatar

I have a mind blank at the moment!

Sounds like something I went through when I first got my set up 10 months ago.

Instead I wasn't looking for BIG sound like heavy bass or explosions, more about overall feel and make use of the surrounds.

Toy Story is really good with this, Silent Hill is too.

Surprisingly, The Day After Tomorrow sounds fantastic.

Other good ones I can think of:

Terminator 2
Rise of The Planet of The Apes
LOTR trilogy
Armageddon
Transformers 1-3
Spider-man 3 (has the best audio of the 3)
War of The Worlds 2005 version
Star Wars 1-6
Inception
King Kong 2005 version
Heat
Top Gun
District 9
Star Trek 2009
Jurassic Park
Independence Day
Avatar
The Mummy
Pirates of The Caribbean (all)
Prometheus
Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace
Serenity

Band of brothers on DTS

This, the shelling of bastone. Oh WOW!

The pod races in star wars are pretty epic.

the opening scenes in the 2009 Star Trek movie are very good too, the torpedoes launching form the romulan mining ship are very nice on the rear speakers.

Rango has good sound and incredible picture quality. Some serious effort went into the making of this animated film.

Watched Del Toros Pans Labyrinth the other night and was very impressed with some of the surround effects, really enjoyed the movie too. His creepy The Orphanage also has some great sound, first time I watched it I was pretty unnerved by the clarity of footsteps on upstairs floorboards, really sounded as though someone was walking around upstairs in my house!

The Pixar films have some of the best sound and video quality out there IMO.

War Of The Worlds (Tom Cruise/Spielberg version) has some amazing room shaking low frequency effects, as does Dark City.
The Matrix trilogy
Master and commander
Hell Boy 1&2
Inception
Pirates Of The Carribean trilogy (haven't seen 4 yet)
James Bond Casino Royale / Quantum Of Solace
Apocalypto (Mel Gibson Directed)
Peter Jacksons King Kong
Das Boot.
Bourne Trilogy
