:D:D Originally was gonna get the i3 3220 but playing it safe for the future with the i5.

Is this your first build from scratch?

Enjoy the build. You will probably hit fustrating points, brown your trousers when fit the heatsink and deffinately shed blood. I still do this now dozens of builds later. SO very worth it though :D

Haha hopefully wont shed blood :P
And yes it is my first build from scratch, building it with my dad for my younger brother, so both a family activity and a present :D

And thanks to everyone in the forums who gave me feedback on the build really appreciate it.

Glad to hear that mate. Enjoy it. :D

With my first build (installing i5 2500k) I was browning my trousers for 10 mins straight installing the CPU because of the crunching noise it makes when you close the retention bracket and try move the arm back into place! I'd never been so nervous in my life thinking I'd broke a £180 piece of equipment. Turns out that it was just normal anyway :p.

The crunching of the CPU when you push the arm down.....I was cringing on my first time doing it and kept pulling my arm back up and taking the CPU out to see if the poor bugger was still alive....

Its defiantly the worst part...putting the GPU or the RAM isn't exactly very pleasant the first time as-well you have to push pretty hard to get them in, I didn't want to force them in thinking the connections would just snap off....

Anyway now that the OP is crapping his pants, good luck with the build! :D

haha I'll try my best not to crush it, id have to try really hard :P

I actually finished building my new PC today, paying roughly the same price as you did for similar parts and I have to say, it really wasn't that bad. I got my friend over to have a look just for the hell of it, but I've done most of the work on my own and I know very little about computers and stuff. I followed this video by Newegg and this guide present on this forum throughout the whole thing. I'm actually having a little trouble with a stubborn part so I won't be able to actually start it up, but I did a test build outside of the case and it worked :) I also scraped the CPU a little too, hopefully no actual damage...

My only concern would be, why no 3570k?? extra 20 pounds I think it would`ve been worth it... especially since you selected Z77 which was made for overclocking, also that free cooler isnt going to be much use to you on 3470 since it works fine on stock cooler and you cant overclock it either.... so its probably just reduction of noise that you would get.

I would either go 3220 or 3570k tbh...

The OP has made a good choice in going with the 3470 with the G43 as a 3570k would have been wasted. As well as being quiter, the cooler will also provide better temps when under load. Oh, the 3570k is also £30 dearer.

Good luck with your first build Mart1ns and if you should have any problems, you know where we are.

Just a quick question, am I going to need to apply/buy thermal paste?
Silly question but a necessary one :)

If you haven't got an answer back yet, it depends. If the cooler has a thermal pad applied, you'd be ok, but you can always replace it with paste.

Hey guys just wondering, what is the best way to get windows 7/8 full version, not the upgrade since I will have no OS.
I have been looking everywhere and it seems like the full version of both windows 7 and 8 is really hard to find, they sell almost entirely the upgrade versions :[
