I am thinking of going for a lumia 920 on 4G.

Anyone got any experience on the EE 4G network? Wondering if it's worth the extra increase in price.

I'm a WP7 user and love the interface still.

So the main thoughts are 3G or 4G? Is the HTC 8x worth a consideration?

4g is a rip off, spee din crease that you can't use, due to sily low limits. Ontop of that 4g isn't avilable in most of the uk. So do any traveling and. You can't use, that's if your home town/workplace has it to start with.

thanks for the quick response. is that a general opinion on 4G or just yours?

i am in NW4 and should be able to get good signal/speeds.

I'm still inclined to go with 3G as it seems like a safer bet for the moment and i've been pretty happy with it up until now.

any opinions on the 920 over the 8x?

Well it's my opinion, but lots of us share it.

What 3G speed do you get ATM, and what can't you do on your phone with 3G speeds taht would improve with 4g(if you can't awnser this, then what's the point). If you need 4g you will like be using lots of Gb a month, way more than the allowances EE offer.

920 is far better than htc, mainly due to Nokia apps and 3rd party apps that have Nokia exclusivity till at least summer 2013. Rest, size etc is all down to personal opinion.

I'd wait until O2/Vodafone join the fray - that way coverage will be better and hopefully prices will be driven down due to competition.

I went with 3G on a 2 year contract because as it is, 3G/HSDPA+ in my area is fast enough (and I'm not close enough to Leeds, which ironically, has slowest 3G I've experienced when I visted a fortnight ago)

It'll take time to mature as currently EE's far to limiting for the price one can pay, so personally, I'd say stick with 3G for another year before going into 4G when the others join with competition and wider coverage.

EE is crap. They spout this sales crap in all the stores around here ssaying that 4G is Amazing and they use it all the time... When infact they also live in the same town which wont have 4G till 2014...

I went into one shop, he showed me his phone using "4g" i was impressed with the 30mbs download until i noticed the Wireless Logo was ON! They do anything to fool people into paying for something you CANNOT actually use.

i went with the 920 - 3G last night. picked it up for £40 and got a free wireless charging plate in for the bargain. got the friends and relations discount so very chuffed indeed :)

thanks for your help peeps and happy holidays.

incidentally can anyone recommend a case for this? pretty sure it doesn't need a screen protector as it has gorilla glass.

Meifeng / Rock cases are my recommendations. I've got the MeiFeng (the Rock is just a more European friendly branding from the same Chinese manufacturer)

Gives the phone more grip without adding any bulk or obscuring the buttons. It got a couple of knocks when I leaned over and phone fell out, no damage to the phone, slight corner knock on the case. Totally recommend it.

are you allowed to link to the place where you got it from? or could you PM me?

Ebay is full of them.

I refuse to knock any network as they all have their upsides, the EE person doing the wireless test is very naughty though - i thought head office had decreed they had to use LTE or nothing to show the speed :(

It's useable - if you have a need for 20MBit and in coverage. If you don't need super speed then 1-10MBit on any of the 3G networks (if you're fortunate to get HSPA coverage - about 60% of the population do) will suffice. I don't personally agree with the premium price point but if you're the sort of person that would require this for say, mobile broadband - then it makes sense.

920 is a nice phone though, I'd only really consider Nokia MS devices, the bond they share (before MS buys out Nokia) makes this the stronger manufacturer over HTC.

Quicker ping, better signal, faster loading times on the things you already do. I use youtube to watch videos all the time on the way home or at lunch breaks and have been nowhere near my limit, I use it over wifi hotspots which are slower and am satisfied.

It's new technology of course it's not everywhere but it will be in a few years.

kids corner looked really useful until it set the same PIN as the rest of the phone :( what a shame !! i may as well not have a PIN if they are both the same :(

Im getting 14mb up and down speeds... (not on a 920 but Im sure it will be comparable).

You don't need faster times for youtube, youtube etc can easily load on 3G, you are obviously a light user have zero need for such speeds and are paying through the nose for it. A better sure, but 60ms faster doesn't mean I'm waiting mages.
This isn't in a few years time, this is now. And no you don't have better signal. 4g signal is pretty much non existent, it covers. Such a. Small area of the uk.
Yes 4g is good, EE and its deployment and price right now, is not good.
I can use over 3GB is one night.

Realistically speaking the networks need people to take up 4G to fund it's expansion anyway so if you could all be nice and supportive of it, that would be grand ;)

Youtube 720p/streaming from home media server isn't all that fast on HSPA, it could be better. this is pretty much the only "usual" activity I do where I can see 4G being of serious use but as you've all seen - it's the one they pimp the hardest in ads. Seeking is especially a huge pain on 3G and associated technology. Like a lot of things, it's evolution rather than revolution.

youtube makes all the difference, imagine zero loading times - its so much better, very very noticeable, I watch iplayer on the bus home now after a night out. If you live in London, its definitely worth it as everywhere you go its available - of course if you are outside London and/or commute outside the 4G area then I woudnt suggest getting it.
Im paying £52 a month for 12 months with a free Nokia 920 - not too shabby a deal I would say.. Then again I think I was lucky..
