My contract with 02 is up and i've had a look around for a sim only deal. Three have an all you can eat data deal with plenty of minutes/text for around £18 a month on a 1 month contract.

I've already got my PAC code from 02 so before I switch over I just wondered if any of you have experience with three. I've been with 02 for years but they annoy me now with their rubbish tariffs!

Oh and I have an iPhone 4S.

Not an iphone but I've run my Desire for years on 3 PAYG -15 quid a month gets 300 mins 3000 Text & Unlimited Data.
Get yourself a PAYG Sim & try your moby in the areas you use it most, If you get a good signal then go for it, I must say I can't remember the last time I had no signal or had issues with calls, Not had any issues at all over the years.

3 is like day and night for me, coming from Voda and O2 before that. No comparison and no problems. Im on a 1 month rolling contract for a squeak over £15 p/m, unlimited data. 25gb p/m is my record for a months usage, 3 aren't bothered :>

Didn't you fancy taking advantage of O2's new super duper deal, with 100Mb of data, which will DOUBLE in three months... great that! ;)

Get a free SIM to try like 4TS said, but his experience mirrors mine pretty much.

Yeh I might try a free sim for coverage.

I think I might just get a sim only deal as well since other than the iPhone 5 there isn't anything to upgrade to from a 4S

I've been with 3 for a couple of years, currently pay about £12 for unlimited data, 200 minutes and something silly like 5,000 texts on a rolling one month contract. I won't sign up for anything other than a monthly deal now. I moved from O2 and it was a massive upgrade for me.

Coverage is superb pretty much everywhere I go, a massive improvement on O2 for me.

Been with three for the past 9 years or so. No major problems for me. Coverage has been good enough, and CS acceptable for when I needed them.

Had an iPhone4 on 3 for 2 years, and now an iPhone 5 with no probe.

I have a 4S with 3 all you can eat data. I find that reception outside is generally very good. However in some buildings where I work, despite the coverage outside being good, I am left with no reception, where colleagues with phones on Orange have full reception.

Yup im with 3. Got an iPhone 5 here too. No problems with 3 so far. Been with them for 3-4 months now. Been Very good so far.

Three are doing a £6.90 per month SIM only, over 12 months, 200 minutes, 5000 texts, and 1GB data, you can then add the unlimited All-you-can-eat data add-on for £3 per month, so total £9.90.

Also if you go through Topcashback they are paying you £42.odd, so all-in you'd be paying £6.40 per month. :)

I've been with them for about four months on the One Plan.

Speed and coverage have both been like someone said above, night day better than o2 for me.

I'm currently on my laptop in my dad's car tethered to it and for the last twenty minutes or so it's felt like it's about as fast as at home.

I'd join them again. Got my mum to join the other day as well and they're chopping £30 off her third bill because it was a recommend so maybe see if they'll do that as well.

Edit: This is from just now going along the A127:

Do 3 have a 2G network?

I just moved from Voda to T-Mobile and having some problems, like I have to go to manual carrier selection and try both of the EE options before I find which one gives me more that 0.1mb.

Do 3 have a 2G network?

Only in a few select areas where they dont have enough 3G coverage then they use Orange's 2G network. I've never seen it in London. Data speeds are always great the only problem is you get the odd dead spot with no reception that a 2G network would probably fill in. 4G will probably solve this though.

When our company started dealing with Three earlier this year, we were told by their trainer that they don't have any 2G capability at all anymore. They used to rent masts from other networks but are now completely independent, using only their own masts and their own network, which is entirely 3G. They don't use Orange's network at all now.

They share the actual physical masts (as in the location, the right to put their stuff there) with other networks but it's their own equipment mounted on them that they now use exclusively.

Unless this has changed in the last 9 months or so it'll still be the case, so no they have no 2G network at all.

Happy 3 customer also for the past few years, Great signal and fantastic speeds, get between 6mb and 14mb on average.

This. Three's outdoor coverage is brilliant but as soon as you get indoors it leaves a lot to be desired.

That can't possibly be their fault though, 3G doesn't travel as far as 2G and maybe doesn't penetrate so well? (I'm not sure on the second point)

I suppose whereas with other networks in that instance maybe you would go down to the 2G network, that option doesn't exist with Three.

Three use a higher signal frequency than other networks, which offer less penetration into buildings unfortunately. So it is partly their fault, but I doubt there were many frequency bands left available when they launched.
